My mother is 95 years old and she is lucky to weigh 100 pounds. She also eata one or two prunes each day. I think she does this so she does not put on any weight and more probably wants to continue to loose weight. My question is that should my mother be eating prunes at all or do it on a less frequent basis?

I have a severe flatulence problem and it was diagnosed as being caused by a clogged colon. After an enema or laxative, the flatulence disappears. How many prunes per day would help this problem?

George,

I would eat about 10-12 prunes per day, but first soak them in warm water for about 10 minutes; this makes easier digestibility and also tastes better.

This should clear up your flatulence problem by having more bowel movements and cleaning out waste material stuck in your colon. Think of it as good irrigation through the plumbing. Take care.

I have been drinking a glass of prune juice almost every morning with breakfast. Aside from the laxative side affect, does a daily dose of prune juice likely to cause any long term gastrointestinal distress?

I take a handful of those individually wrapped prunes with me every morning before leaving for work. Throughout the day whenever I feel a little hungry, I'll eat a prune. This keeps me from going to the vending machine and getting a bag of chips. Making this healthier choice has helped me lose 6 pounds in the past month!

I am diagnosed with colitis (persistent inflammation of the colon) a few years ago - and told I'll have it for life. I like to eat foods that my doctor suggests I limit. Prunes help me manage this, and improves my life. I like their taste and they curb my appetite too, especially for sweets. Very nutritional. Always have them in my house!
