Giving birth is an incredible experience both physically and emotionally. Unfortunately, one of the greatest challenges after giving birth is that seemingly long journey back to your pre-pregnancy weight. Some women are just lucky and don’t have to put any effort into getting back into those skinny jeans, but the majority of women end up in a battle they sometimes never win. In fact studies show that women who are not back to their normal weight within 6 months of giving birth will have a higher chance of ongoing weight problems.

Breastfeeding and Dieting

The idea of ‘dieting’ during breastfeeding is a controversial topic as your calorie intake is very important during this time. If you are on a truly ‘healthy’ diet, then there is no need to worry as a healthy diet does not consist of starving yourself or cutting out any nutrition! A true healthy diet will only benefit yourself and your baby.

Unhealthy Diets

Avoid any diets that ask you to cut out any particular foods. The Atkins diet is a popular example of this and is based on the 'No Carbs' rule. There are now hundreds of other low carb diets based on this concept. Cutting out carbohydrates from your diet can cause a number of side effects and as soon as you start eating carbs again, you will gain all your weight back. Any diet that requires only eating a particular food, or just drinking water, is not recommended for healthy, long term weight loss.

The Healthy Diet

There is only one method for healthy and effective weight loss and this method is finally starting to get some recognition. This starts by eating the right kinds of foods from all the food groups, and eating more often. (Yes, you read that right!)

Following a set of simple guidelines, you can actually reprogram your metabolism to work for you and not against you. Believe it or not but it’s actually easier than you think.

If you want to learn more details and you are ready to start losing those pregnancy pounds, there is an online program you can join that teaches you everything you need to know about this method of losing weight. It also comes with a diet generator where you choose the foods you want to eat. This is an excellent program for healthy, long term weight loss and maintenance that is recommended for you and your baby.
