Keeping Children Healthy

Healthy Eating for Children

With the rise of obesity in children and many adult diseases now being manifested in our children, parents are searching for answers to help their kids lead healthier lives.  Healthy eating for children has increasingly become a priority for parents.

Below I list several things that could be helpful in helping your kids lead healthier lives.

  • Eliminate prepackaged foods. They are usually loaded with chemicals (artificial substances), sugar, and bad fats.
  • Cook from scratch. I know for most this is a hard one. Most of us do not have the time to do this. Here's a solution. Double or triple your portions and freeze the extra for another meal(s) later. It doesn't take that much longer to fix a triple portion and the time saved later is tremendous.
  • Get your children involved in choosing meals and snacks and let them help make them.
  • Soda in any form is not good for you. It’s either loaded with sugar or sweetened with chemically altered substances. Slowly start replacing it with filtered water. Don't underestimate the value of drinking plenty of filtered water.
  • Eliminate sugar in the diet as much as possible. Use fruit to replace the sweet cravings.
  • Allow less TV and computer. It has a negative impact on their growing brain when used in excess.
  • Get your children outside playing (exercising) in the fresh air and sunshine. You need to be outside also. Get some form of exercise with them. It can be a great stress reliever.
  • Keep breads and pastas to a minimum. That can influence their weight and health. The gluten in the products are a real problem for more people than realized.
  • Keep a vegetable tray accessible at all times. It's amazing how often they will go for them if they are already laid out on a plate.

Only make one or two changes at a time. Otherwise you and your children might get too overwhelmed.
