In its initial phase, they used to be something like an amplification cone in funnel-like shape. They have had astonishing advances for the past two centuries. The first version of any hearing aid came in the early 1500’s. They were the devices that were made from wood. They were designed like the animals’ ears that are known for better audio reception.
And till 1800, the hearing aids turned out to be a famous consumer product. Today, the hearing aids have catered a significant relief to old people who have lost their ability to hear clearly due to aging. Also, they are greatly assisting the people who have a hearing problem due to some medical issues.
How hearing aids work?
The basic work of hearing aids is of sound amplification, particularly of voice and speech. They work so effectively that the person with impaired hearing gets a better hearing power after using them.
Though the hearing aids have registered a huge transformation in working over the years, their basic concept is still the same. Indeed most of the hearing aids make use of the basic principles to work for the betterment of people who have hearing impairments.
There are about three initial components a hearing aid contains— microphone, amplifier and receiver. The microphone acts like a reception device, which catches the sound waves. It takes the auditory sounds and converts them in electronic sounds. Amplifier further detects these sounds. And then the amplifier takes the transmitted sounds from microphone and makes them louder.
As these hearing aids are designed to meet the specific hearing needs, the amplifiers integrated in them can actually choose the sounds to increase. The contemporary and advanced hearing aids with clear-cut amplifiers reduce and often eliminate the background noise. The receiver serves as a speaker function. It converts the sound waves from the auditory ones to the electronic one.
