Heart Attack Risk
45Heart Attack Can Result in Death or Long-Term, Expensive Medical Treatment
Many Symptomless Conditions and Diseases Can Result in Heart Attack
About one in every five deaths is the result of a heart attack, according to the American Heart Association. About 1.3 million people have heart attacks each year in the United States alone.
You may think you are safe from heart attacks, but you could be wrong. The reason for this is that there a number of serious conditions and diseases that are largely symptomless, meaning that you could have these diseases without being aware of it. Such diseases include:
Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD): Peripheral Artery Disease occurs as the arteries in the legs narrow and harden (atherosclerosis). This serious disease is most commonly caused by plaque build-up which can restrict blood flow and cause pain when walking.
Arterial Stiffness (Atherosclerosis): Atherosclerosis is the "hardening of the arteries" - or arterial stiffness - that occurs when fat, cholesterol, and other substances build up in the walls of the arteries and form plaque. Eventually plaque deposits can make the artery less flexible causing the heart to work harder to push blood through the arteries. Blood clots can form around the plaque deposits, further restricting blood flow. Furthermore, these blood clots and/or pieces of plaque can break apart, causing them to move through the arteries.
Carotid Artery Blockage: The Carotid Arteries are the large blood vessels on either side of the neck that supply blood to the head and brain. Carotid Artery Disease develops as plaque quietly accumulates over time within these arteries.
You Can Sign Up For Painless Screenings To Detect These Conditions
If you are concerned about your risk for heart attack, you have options for detecting these conditions: a painless screening for conditions such as peripheral artery disease (PAD), arterial stiffness (atherosclerosis), and carotid artery blockage. Employing non-invasive ultrasound and other painless technologies, these screenings can immediately detect whether you may be at high risk for heart attack given the presence of one or more of these conditions.
Once you get screened, if such a condition is detected in your body, you will be in the position to seek immediate medical attention to get the situation remedied.
