While not all herbs can actually address the cause of heartburn, the symptoms of heartburn can be treated by some herbs. Herbs are also often used for homeopathic remedies for heartburn.

Chamomile

Chamomile is a flowering plant which is often used to relieve stress and other ailments through aromatherapy and topical application. As heartburn herbal remedy, chamomile is best taken in tea form. Chamomile tea is taken from the flower of the chamomile plant. The petals are excluded from the tea form. There are many varieties of chamomile tea sold in herbal stores. This heartburn herbal remedy soothes the raging stomach acids because of its unusually high calcium content.

Ginger

Ginger is another heartburn herbal remedy that can actually arrest some symptoms of heartburn as well as address the condition itself. Nausea is one of the many symptoms of heartburn and ginger is a heartburn herbal remedy that can actually stop nausea while it is trying to soothe a person's stomach. This heartburn herbal remedy also treats the inflammation that usually occurs when the stomach acids burn the esophageal lining near the stomach. Ginger may be taken in its raw form; some indigenous people actually crush a small ginger root and just suck on it while it is in their mouths. It can also be effective as a heartburn herbal remedy while it is used in cooking. In its tea form, this heartburn herbal remedy can also be quite effective and even tasty. Ginger can also be taken in tablet form and is just as effective as taking it raw or in food. It is recommended that adults take in as much as 500 milligrams of ginger in tablet form if they suffer frequently from heartburn and acid reflux.

Peppermint

This leaf or herb is a great heartburn herbal remedy because it comes with a menthol taste that can actually positively affect one's breath. It is actually the menthol that can help to soothe and calm the heaving stomach or ease stomach cramps which may cause acid reflux and heartburn. Fresh peppermint leaves can be chewed to ease heartburn as well as help with bloating due to gas. This heartburn herbal remedy also works great for those who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome because it can soothe the irritated stomach and bowels.
