Heartburn is a annoyance that most of us suffer from time to time, after eating or drinking a bit to much. There are plenty of over the counter heartburn medications, but there has been an interest in several of the heartburn home remedies. The hurting of heartburn is caused by the acid that helps to digest our nutrients is not kept in the stomach and begins to return or reflux back up the esophagus and will burn. There is a valve or a lid named the lower esophageal sphincter or ordinarily called the LES.. Its task is to open when we swallow food and drink and then remain closed. The trouble is sometimes the stomach develops to much acids or the sphincter relaxes and allows the acid to re-enter into the esophagus and burn.

Over eating is a cause of the ordinary heartburn. So slow down and consume less. Acids can be forced up in the esophagus when it is too full and successively develop more acids. Over the counter antacids are in general helpful and competent. Most of the familiar over the counter antacids will incorporate a mixture of magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. While one will stimulate diarrhea one will constipate and when merged they counteract each other. While the over the counter antacids may have very side effects, if consumed for a long period of time, they may be cloaking a more problematic condition.

After eating, it is best not to lay down for two hours. It is best to also have the head and chest higher then the feet. Gravitational force will help to do the rest. Try positioning blocks under the head of the bed or placing a wedge under the head of the mattress, but extra pillows do not appear to work.

Do not ingest milk or mints for heartburn. This can make a bad situation worsened. The mints is just one of the several foods that will relax the lower esophageal sphincter or the LES that is the value applied to contain the reflux. Some other foods that loosen up the sphincter is wine, beer, other alcoholic beverages and tomatoes. The fats, proteins and calcium of the milk can cause the stomach to develop and release more acid. While it will aid the throat going down, inside the stomach it has a different outcome.

Caffeine drinks, such as tea, coffee and sodas might chafe a already enlarged esophagus and relax the sphincter. Chocolate has a twofold effect with the fats and caffeine. White chocolate has as much fat but little caffeine.

Avoid tobacco smoke. While it relaxes the sphincter, it also increases acid output. Carbonated drinks can stretch the stomach and will have the same effects as overeating. fried, greasy and fatty foods will sit in the stomach longer and produce excess acid output. Being over weight, the extra fat will squeeze the stomach. Wear loose fitting clothes, nothing tight and binding on the waistline. Bending your knees instead of bending the waist help. Several prescription drugs such as antidepressants and sedatives may worsen heartburn pain. Prepare and discuss with your doctor.

Not all people are effected by the spicy chili peppers or the acidic foods like oranges and lemons, but several people are. It is advised for you to maintain a heartburn journal to help see what does and does not bother you. If problems with the conditions continue more then two months or occurs over two times a calendar week, try checking with you doctor. The diary will help the doctor to determine a course of action.
