The battle against heartburn

As a long time sufferer of heartburn, I have done a fair amount of trial and error research into cures and relief.  We all hear of miracle cures and special pills and the like but more often than not many are just antacids and the placebo effect.  I however, have found a method to reduce my heartburn which works (when I let it) and has a number of other positive health results.

Before I begin I must strongly warn those put off by the word "diet"  Understandably so, the word diet has developed a stigma lately akin to hoax, scam, and excessive effort.  Please ignore the negative ramifications of this word for the duration of this article as the information contained herein may help you.

I was introduced to a new form of diet that didn't demonize different types of food for their perceived level of nutrition.  In these days it is all too easy to say a chocolate bar is bad for you, just because it is deemed a snack food.  When I look at a chocolate bar I see an energy source with a time and place for use.  For example, when I'm on the up slope of Saddleback mountain in Lake Louise, AB, I will eat two Snickers bars as they not only contain carbohydrates for a quick energy release, but some nuts that are full of protein, for a long controlled energy release.  On the way down, I will eat two Mars bars as they carbohydrate level is higher and will allow my knees not to shake as I come down the trail.  The use of these candy bars is only because they are infinitely less expensive than energy bars from the climbing shop and they taste great.

I went from a husky 185lbs to a lean mean 168lbs climbing machine in 3 months during my stay in Alberta.  This was no miracle diet with pills and a strict routine.  It was simply eating right for my blood type.  Yep, you heard me.  I eat the right food for my blood type.  Your blood type is one of many reasons some diets will work for you and not for your friends.  Not everyone is the same.   However, many of us are similar, at least in our blood type.  Typically speaking, O+ blood types (me) thrive on physical exertion and do well eating red meats and high protein foods.  Other types thrive on other foods and food types with different lifestyles.

How does this apply to heartburn?  Each blood type has their food broken into three categories, negative, neutral and beneficial.  Negative foods will reduce your energy, contribute to fat gain or harmful weight loss, and yes cause heartburn.  For example, as an O+ blood type negative foods like dairy, wheat and caffeine will give me insane heartburn.  I'm not saying this will happen to everyone. Many O+ people have developed a tolerance for things that are negative for them.  In fact, most people have developed a tolerance to all kinds of things that would otherwise be lethal.

However, if you notice certain foods give you heartburn, I would bet that these things are on the negative list for your blood type.  So, if you want to find a non-intrusive way of reducing heartburn, I suggest you try eating for your blood type.  You can find more about the benefits of eating for your blood type in Dr Peter D'Adamo's book(s) eat right 4 your type.

Happy reading,  Scott

How NOT to climb saddleback

Without the aid of candy bars, this climb would have been a disaster. Please note, this is not a recommended route for climbing Saddleback Mountain

Hi compu-smart,

Sorry to hear of your pains. Hopefully you find some relief with this system of diet. So far it has worked out great for me, this is to say, whenever I can stay away from all my negative food groups. :)

Thanks for reading

Scott
