Heather Small

Heather Small joined Mike Pickering's pop band called M People in early 1990. (M People has Mike Pickering's initials) She had before been in a band called Hot House, but didn't score her any success at all. She joined M People as the lead vocalist although the original plan for the band was to have each member sing a different song, so there wasn't a specific singer. But Heather Small was way too awesome to be a back ground singer even just for some of the time, so she became the distinctive and lead singer. Three men were also in the band , one of course being Mike Pickering, and then Paul Heard and Shovell. They had both been in previous bands such as Acid Jazz Band, Ace Of Clubs, and Natural Life. And Mike acted as a DJ. Their first hit single was "How Can I Love You More?" on their first c.d. (1991) But this song got even more attention when the re-leased/ re-mixed it in 1993. They had many hit single in between first and last albums. They went on the sell 1.75 million (mwahaha) copies of their fifth and final album called The Best Of M People. After this album M People took a long break. But they got back together to tour as part of the Forestry Commission. (they preformed in forests). Then there most recent concert was in Warsaw, Poland on September 7th, 2007.

During the long break of M People after their fifth album is when Heather Small pursued her solo career. In my opinion her most popular song is "Proud" because it was not only the soundtrack to the London 2012 Olympic Bid but it is also the theme song to "Biggest loser". Which is where I first even heard of Heather Small. I love that song because it is so inspirational. In this song she sounds so much like Cher! Like the deep voice and how powerful it is. She also has an awesome song called "Changes" which you can't listen to without doing some type of movement. Even if you're not a dancer, you will catch yourself tapping your foot or nodding with the music. She hasn't done anything since M People's concert in Warsaw, Poland but hopefully she will continue to make music. I actually like her solo music better than M People's music, so hopefully she will make more solo music. Either way she is an amazing singer.

Thanks for responding to my request. I also love Heathers voice and the song proud, it was nice to learn more about her career. You write really great music hubs about some of the best artists. Keep up the good work. I also like your site clucked.com, seems like it would be fun for kids.

I love that song too, but I had no idea who sang it. Awesome hub. I'll have to check out more songs by Heather.

Hoodala- Thank you. I try.

Lisaj66- I had no idea who sang it either, but I thought it was a good song and perfect for the show. My dad actually found it and started listening to it first.

Tayler!
