Heathrow Flight Departures

The Capitol's most popular airport has been Heathrow for some considerable time. . Flight departures from Heathrow are reputed to be amongst the busiest in the world.

For those of you that like a bit of history - Heathrow airport started life as a tiny little grassfield way back in 1946!

Privately owned, the Great Western Aerodrome as it was then known as was used largely for test flying. The nearby airfields of Heston and Hanworth were where commercial flights took off.

London Heathrow airport handles over 67 Million passengers per year with over 90 different airlines offering a staggering choice of world wide routes, European and international destinations.

Heathrow Airport lies some 15 miles from central London and is regarded as the hub of the aviation world.

There are 5 terminals at Heathrow Airport namely:

1. TERMINAL1 - For airlines such as BMI, El Al and South African Airways

2. TERMINAL 2 - Non UK airlines flying to Europe and some long haul routes

3. Terminal 3 - Long haul terminal for airlines from US, South American, Asian & Asia Pacific + most African carriers

4. Terminal 4 - Most British Airways long haul flights and some European services + KLM and Qantas

5. Terminal 5 - New British Airways terminal. Check with BA for your correct flight terminal

With Internet shopping available for all your travel needs, passengers can get the very best flight deals when booking on line and save a tidy sum on Heathrow flight departures to anywhere in the World.

As airfares are constantly in a state of flux when you see what is a good fare that you book it quickly as they seem to sell out almost instantly they become available.

Sometimes you can save money by departing either a couple of days before or after your planned dates. Local airports may also work out cheaper in some cases than international ones but for sheer range of destinations and choice of airlines you'll find it hard put to beat airports such as Heathrow.

Here are a few quick tips to get the best fares for flights from Heathrow:

1. Telephone travel agents and airlines either as late or as early in the day as possible because they may be less busy and so have more time to look around for good deals.

2. Don't be afraid to ask for any unadvertised fare deals.

3. When booking with budget airlines make sure to book as early as possible as prices do increase with each passing day.

In most cases budget airlines won't be the cheaper option if you are flying very shortly after booking the ticket, you need to book budget airlines well in advance.

And don't forget that flights priced at £1 may sound cheap do not include the tax element your fare could end up being just as expensive as other published fares.

Book online as this usually saves a few pounds. I have listed this site below as a useful resource for both cheap flight deals and information on Heathrow flight departures

.

I sincerely hope that you find this article useful and I very mcu look forward to providing more travel tips and useful resources. Until then...

Thanks for this useful guide. This brought back memories, when i once thought i could wait two more weeks and still have the same price for the ticket. Needless to say that the ticket price had by then gone through the roof and almost tripled. Therefore, I recommend as well, once you find a good rate, don't wait, book the ticket immediately ... it won't get cheaper anyway:o).
