How to Do a Heavy Metal Cleanse
72The necessity for people to partake in a heavy metal cleanse program first began about 200 years ago when people began to dig up the earth in search of heavy metals for industrial use and other purposes. Since heavy metals have become a part of our everyday environment they are now appearing regularly in the human body. We can not keep our systems free of these toxins because we have to eat and breathe. Substances that come into contact with our skin are absorbed into the bloodstream.
Having one heavy metal infiltrate our system is bad enough, but different heavy metals enter the body creating synergy. Basically this means that one plus one doesn't equal two, it equals two hundred. So the damage these metals can do working together is severe. Heavy metals are known to be Neurotoxins which are substances attracted to the human nervous system.
The nerve endings absorb the toxins and they travel to the cell body. On their way they disrupt vital functions such as nutrient transport. The body is constantly trying to eliminate these toxins through the liver, kidney and exhaled air. The liver is the one that does most of the work sending the toxins into the small intestine. Unfortunately, most of the neurotoxins are reabsorbed through the intestinal wall.
Here is a partial list of common neurotoxins beginning with the most dangerous: Mercury, Lead, Cadmium, Iron, Manganese and Aluminum (are the most common). Common Sources: Metallic mercury vapor escapes from dental amalgam fillings (they contain about 50 % Mercury, the rest is Zinc, Silver, Copper, Tin and trace metals). Cadmium: car fumes, cigarette smoke , pigment in oil paint Lead: outgasing from paint, residues in earth and food chain from time when lead was used in gasoline, Aluminum cookware, drinking water
According to The American Academy of Neurotherapy any illness can be caused by, or contributed to, or exagerated by neurotoxins. Here is a partial list: Neurological problems: Fatigue, depression, insomnia, memory loss, blunting of the senses, chronic intractable pain (migraine, sciatica, CTS etc.), burning pain, paresthesia, strange sensations and sounds, numbness. Autism. Seizure disorder. Hyperactivity syndromes. Premature ejaculation and inorgasmia, emotional problems: inappropriate fits of anger and rage, timidness, passivity, bipolar disorder, depression, psychotic behaviour, deviant behaviour, mental problems: memory loss, thinking disorder, loss of intelligence, premature aging, G.I. problems: candida, food allergies, leaky gut syndrome, parasites, inflammatory bowel disease. Orthopedic problems: joint arthritis, persisiting musculo-skeletal pain, fibromyalgia, recurrent osteopathic lesions, Immunological disorders (autoimmune diseases, hypothyroid disorders, MS, ALS, Sjogen´s Syndrome, CFIDS, MCS etc.),Cardiovascular disorders ( vascular disease, arrythmias, angina, increased heartbeat), Cancer –mercury, arsenic, copper etc. can be a trigger, ENT disorders: chronic sinusitis, tinnitus, glandular swelling, Eye problems: macular degeneration (dry and wet), optic neuritis, iritis, deteriorating eye sight, etc.) Internal medicine problems: kidney disease, hypertension, hypercholesterinemia, syndrome X, OB/gyn: difficulties of pregnancy, impotence, uterine fibroids, infertility.
As we get older we are bound to experience some of the symptoms of heavy metal exposure. I began to notice a gradual onset of some of the symptoms mentioned for heavy metal comtamination, but I don't like going to the doctor and getting tests. I prefer to take a total body cleanse approach using a method that will effectively eliminate as many heavy metals as possible. Even if you have no symptoms you may want to consider cleanse methods that eliminate as many heavy metals as possible before you develop symptoms. A formulation is the way to go because you get the power of synergy working for you. Remember that heavy metals work synergistically together, so if you are focusing on an agent that only eliminates one heavy metal you should still take several agents together to get the synergistic effect and remove other heavy metals.
Here is a list of natural agents that eliminate heavy metals: Amino acids have a valuable detox effect. Minerals such as selenium, zinc, manganese, germanium and molybdenum are a healthy mineral base needed for all metal cleanse attempts. Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) help to transport toxic waste. Lipids (made from fatty acids) make up 60-80 % of the central nervous system and need to be constantly replenished. Deficiency makes the nervous system vulnerabe to the fat soluble metals. Cilantro (chinese parsley) is capable of mobilizing mercury, cadmium, lead and aluminum in both bones and the central nervous system.
It is probably the only effective agent in mobilizing mercury in the nucleus of the cell (reversing DNA damage of mercury). Because cilantro mobilizes more toxins then it can carry out of the body it ends up retoxifying the body. This can easily be avoided by simultaneously giving an intestinal toxin-absorbing agent such as chlorella. Chlorella binds toxins - all known toxic metals, environmental toxins and repairs and activates the bodys detoxification functions. Super nutrient: 50-60% amino acid content methylcobolamin - the most easily absorbed and utilized form of B12, B6, minerals, chlorophyll, beta carotene, immune system strengthening, restores bowel flora, digestive aid.
We are exposed to heavy metals everyday through the air, skin and ingestion. It has become a normal thing to find them in the human body. It is wise to remove them periodically through a heavy metal cleanse. Not only is it a great preventative measure against disease, but the ellimination of unpleasant symptoms affecting quality of life make it very desirable. Before embarking upon this or any other new dietary schedule, consult with your health care professional.
- Liver Detox
Many diseases have become prominent as a result of our toxic environment. The air we breathe, the food we eat, the liquids we drink, and that which comes into contact with our skin...The liver can get overloaded...

Cool find. Thanks for the health information.
I thought it was merely too much exposure to rock music. lol lol Thanks for setting me straight!
Thank you for this. Over the past seven years my health has deteriorated--ok, I'm 55 instead of 48, I grant that's part of it--but seriously, I've been thinking a lot about these issues lately. I have lots of joint inflammation and pain now, and I just can't afford to go to a physician anymore. I have heath insurance, but every time I go they run thousands of dollars worth of tests then direct me to a specialist to run thousands more. I'm still paying off the knee I twisted in January--I got Vicodin and an appointment with a joint specialist I didn't keep--that took 5 hours in a waiting room and cost over $600 after the insurance paid their share. I'm just not submitting myself to that madness anymore. I'm going to look into diet & exercise more thoroughly: thanks for the great start. Do you recommend any books in particular? Thanks for a great hub.
I absolutely agree with yoou about heavy metals-- in fact I think( for no scientiffic reason) that the increase in chronic diseases and conditions like autism have a lot to do with heavy metals. Problem is where medicine is concerned there is so little research on this. Meanwhile, the environment gets worse, not better.
Thanks for your response pgrundy. I firmly believe that a study of alternative medicine would benefit you greatly. Here is a list of references for you.
The Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants - Andrew Chevallier
The New Holistic Herb - Hoffman, D
The Green Pharmacy - J. Duke, PH.D.
Prescription for Herbal Healing - Phyllis A. Balch, CNC
Thank you! I will check them all out. I already have an herb garden, so maybe this will be a better direction for me. (How could it be any worse?) Thanks again. (o:
I love cilantro, but it sounds like if I take some chlorella when I eat it, it could really go a long way in removing toxins - who knew? Well, I guess you did. It's a good day when I've learned something new - thanks.
Great hub lots of good info. Keep up the great work.

What an amazing article. I know we're all merrily poisoning ourselves but I didn't realise to that extent. My teeth are full of amalgam fillings - will have to do something about that.
Many thanks for a great hub.
