Helicopter Parents

They are protective, they are eager, they dont leave their child from cradle to college!

They hover over their child's lives like a helicopter's rotor. Hence they are so named!

They call up the supervisor to complain at college, they see that their child keeps her room clean when she stays with roomies, they keep close tabs on performance...in other words, they dont let go...maybe ever! Why, they are sometimes even taking part in salary negotiations! And some parents also take an innovative way out to be near. They enrol in the same program!

For these parents, its been almost a natural progression from waking up the child and sitting outside waiting for primary school to get over, taking the child to parks and playmates to the salary table.

So is it a nuisance or is it good parenting?

For many children, troubled times, teenage aches and high school hang-ups are handled by these parents. In the process the child gets a strong emotional anchor that prevents or at least controls problems like drug abuse, gun abuse. But when it comes to taking parenting to the salary table...

So are you a Helicopter Parent?
