Hell's Kitchen is an extremely popular show that runs on FOX Network. Millions of foodies, chef wannabes, and other fans have become addicted to the drama and stressful situations depicted each week.

The ultimate in foodie reality shows, Hells Kitchen follows Chef Gordon Ramsay as he tackles one kitchen crisis after another. Anyone who has dreamed of opening a restaurant may rethink their fantasy after a season of Hell's Kitchen. Ramsey pulls no punches with those he comes in contact with. His explosive outbursts and confrontations make the viewer happy to be on the other side of the screen. The show has become so popular that there are now video and computer games with the title.

Who Is Gordon Ramsay?

Gordon Ramsay is one of three chefs in the entire world to have won twelve or more Michelin Stars, holding three at one time.

He was born in the U.K. in 1966. The first ten years of his childhood were spent moving from one place to the next. In 1976 his family finally settled in Stratford-upon-Avon. Ramsay moved out of the family home at sixteen and it looked like he would pursue a career in professional football when a series of knee injuries ended those dreams.

Deciding to go to the local college to study Hotel management, Ramsay, in his words, accidently ended up in catering. From there he took on increasingly better positions until he opened his own restaurant in Chelsea, Gordon Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road. The restaurant landed its third Michelin Star in 2001.

In 2005 Gordon Ramsay was introduced to American audiences by Fox Network on Hell's Kitchen. The show has been a run away hit each season. His legendary temper coupled with strong perfectionism has entertained fans for four seasons and will continue to do so.

Following Hell's Kitchen

Basically Hell's Kitchen has two teams, red and blue. Each team competes in cooking challenges during the season. Players are removed from the teams by Ramsay or by other team members for a variety of reasons.

When the teams are small enough the players compete as individuals rather than on teams. During each episode there is a challenge to be overcome. The players are responsible for preparing the food for dinner service and it must pass Gordon Ramsay's inspection. If all is well the food will be served but if not the players will be subject to Ramsay's temper; insults and screamed obscenities. They may even be required to begin again on the various dishes.

When there are only two players left the kitchen is split into two sections. Each player is allowed to create their own restaurant, choosing style, décor, and menu. Previously eliminated contestants will return to help create the meals. The Hell's Kitchen winner will be chosen by Ramsay based on how they work within their teams, the food, and feedback from the customers. The winner of the show will often be given a job as chef in one of Ramsay's restaurants.

The Hell's Kitchen Game

Hell's Kitchen is also available for computer or video play. Players must master cooking skills as well as service. They are subject to the same verbal barrage that real contestants are. The game can also be played in multi-player mode so it is more like the real Hell's Kitchen show.

Each player manages a restaurant playing the server, bus boy, host, and cook. Fulfilling an order requires that the three important phases be mastered. These phases are:

  • Preparation
  • Cooking
  • Service

The ingredients must be prepared correctly and then cooked to perfection. The food must leave the kitchen and be served on time. Each meal receives a score from Chef Ramsay. It is a bit like Diner Dash in play, not very complicated and entails mostly clicking on items and timing things properly.

Future of Hell's Kitchen

Gordon Ramsay has been signed by FOX for at least the next two seasons. Viewers will continue to be entertained by the antics of Ramsay and the contestants on the show. Foodies will continue to be able to be inspired (and sometimes disgusted) by the concoctions that the contestants come up with.

If you enjoy food, reality shows, and a fast pace then Hell's Kitchen may be a show that you want to tune into next season.

Well done, w/lots of varied info in this hub Mary. We watch the show in my household and with my being married to a chef, I guess this would come as no surprise to those who know us. My hubby likes his reality shows and I keep telling him he should go on one instead of living vicariously through those who do!

Chef GR does have a temper which includes the expletives and insults which I'm not sure are necessary (drama attracts viewers though) but indeed, their is a soft and classy side to him as well.

Did not know that personal stuff about Chef GR's background....my favorite part about this hub! Wonder if he has a family of his own (married, girlfriend, kids?)?

I haven't enjoyed watching a cooking show this much since The Galloping Gourmet with Graham Kerr. I watch Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares every time i see it on the cable guide. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Chef Ramsey, Your the best. It would be dark day for me, if they cancelled your show.

I only started watching this show during the 4th season and fell in love with the show, just to see Gordon spit out the food and say "You %^&&^ donkey!" It's hilarious!

Have you seen "The Chopping Block"? It is hosted by the chef that trained Gordon, and is the chef who made Gordon cry. Too bad NBC cancelled the show halfway through.
