Build it...

Even if you have a positive self image, get a piece of paper and a pen. Make a list containing all of your positive attributes, achievements and skills. Make a note of any positive comments you've recieved in the past and/or present. Write them off the top of your head, don't think to hard, just write down what comes to mind first. You can write down one word, a phrase or a full sentence or two if you'd like. Now, when your done with it, read it and smile. Fold it up and put it in a spot where you can remember. When your feeling low, you can go to that spot and read it. Read it out loud if you'd like. Focus on the positive. If you feel insecure often, read it everyday if you have to. There is absolutely nothing wrong with reading it over and over and out-loud even. You need to be your own best friend not your own worst enemy. You owe it to yourself to be good to yourself. Do what makes you happy and say what makes you feel good, even if it means complimenting yourself.

Now at first you may reject this list, but I urge you to keep reading it, no matter how you feel about it. Even if you disagree with it completely. Keep reading it. Don't fall for the negative inner dialogue you have with yourself. Fight it. Keep reading it, try to accept it. As you keep coming back to this list, you will start to believe it. By reviewing it over and over again, you are changing your inner dialogue.

It is possible to change your own perception of yourself. Surround yourself with positive people, make that list and keep it. Read it over and over again. Update it when you've made new achievements and when you've recieved positive comments or compliments from others. When someone compliments you, it makes you feel good inside, right?

One day a friend at work says "That dress looks nice on you," you smile and say thank you.

When you get home from work that day, aren't you still thinking about that compliment? It made you feel that good, right?

Well, repeat those comments to yourself, write it down, re-read it. Say to yourself, I look good.

You will begin to feel good and you will begin to act like you feel good. People will notice that your more vibrant, happy and content.

Try it and see how you begin to feel, beautiful;)

Miss G, thank you for this great advice! I love the image of the kitty and the lion also. :) I generally avoid activities like these because I become self-conscious and start to feel like an ego-maniac, but I have been feeling a little stuck in my life lately, and I think this is just what I need to start lifting my mood.

Great hub!

I do too and I get the same way, I dont want to seem ego centric but it cant hurt to feel good about you without going overboard. Sorry to hear your feeling stuck, I hope this is just what you needed and I hope things get better for you. Just remember to think positive and you will get through it, things will get better. Believe it! Hope you have a great night and take care of yourself!
