Basics of Hemorrhoids and Hemorrhoid Surgery

If you’re searching for information on hemorrhoid surgery, chances are you already know what hemorrhoids are.  But I’m certain there are many of you searching that have only a small knowledge of what hemorrhoids are.  Maybe a family member, friend, or co-worker mentioned having to undergo hemorrhoid surgery and you just want to further educate yourself.  So for those few that do not know, I will explain next.

What Are Hemorrhoids?

Basically, hemorrhoids are an inflammation of the veins that are in and around the anus. You may be surprised to learn that hemorrhoids are actually varicose veins. And varicose refers to any vein that becomes twisted. Hemorrhoids develop from many different reasons. Some contributing factors include excessive sitting and standing in one location. Lack of exercise and poor diets which consist of foods containing high-salt and high-fiber can lead to swelling from water retention and constipation and obesity.

The twisted veins around the anus are easily irritated and can cause great discomfort. When the hemorrhoids are inside the rectum, it becomes intolerable and necessary to consult a physician. Hemorrhoids can become swollen and even produce sac-like tissue, thrombosed or clotted hemorrhoids, that is irritated by any movement and at times can become raw and begin to bleed.

Most hemorrhoid cases can be treated in the privacy of your own home. Changes in lifestyle and diet are some methods of treatment. I discuss more about the leading home hemorrhoid treatment at myherbalmonster.com web site.

Hemorrhoid Surgery Expectations

Not all hemorrhoid cases are the same and not all can be treated at home.  There may come a time when you must consult with a physician.  After all non surgical methods are exhausted the physician may recommend hemorrhoid surgery called a hemorrhoidectomy.  You will find that most people with hemorrhoids will want to jump right to the end and prefer getting the treatment.  However, physicians aren’t so quick to dismiss the normal routes of hemorrhoid treatment.

There are basically two types of hemorrhoids, internal and external.  In most cases, hemorrhoid surgery is not performed on external cases especially if they are small.  There are circumstances where surgery is performed on external hemorrhoids when they are very large and uncomfortable or when you are having other surgery near or around the anus, such as an anal tear.

With internal hemorrhoids, the pain can be overwhelming and a physician may determine that surgery is the last alternative.  The procedure is simple enough, after receiving a local anesthesia a small incision is made near the thrombosed, or clotted hemorrhoid.  The surgeon will then remove or drain the clot and which will reduce the pressure that is causing the pain.

The pain will persist for a few more days then subside but then a new pain will emerge for a several days from the incision and draining of the clot.  Sometimes the pain from draining or removing the clot can feel worse than the thrombosed hemorrhoid.   But luckily, it too will subside within a few days and the patient will be back to normal.

After the affects of surgery have subsided, it’s time to work on those lifestyle and diet changes.  The memory of the hemorrhoid pain should be inspiration enough to make the needed changes.

Actually age plays little in who developos it and who does not. Lifestyle and body condition play major roles. Young women often develop hemorrhoids after child birth. Retention of water and constipation play a part along with the extra pressure placed on the lower abdomen. People with obesity problems develop them to for similar reasons.
