Henna Hair Color Tips

Henna is a natural hair color and therefore it is popular with many people as a hair dye. A few tips can help you make the best use of henna hair coloring to get the best results.

When using pure henna, keep in mind that the hair color will only change to a natural red. The henna products that change your hair color to brown or black inevitably contain other natural dyes or chemicals that help it to become a color other than red. The best thing to do is use pure henna powder. Those with grey hair find that using henna regularly reduces this as well.

Hair Care With Henna Hair Color Dye

Use a sufficient amount of the henna powder and put it into a plastic bowl. Add warm water with lemon juice and mix it until it is the same consistency of yoghurt. Cover the bowl and leave it overnight in order for the dye to be released.

It is extremely important to use the right quantity of ingredients, or you will not get the desired end results. If you have brittle, dry hair, then add a few drops of mustard oil to the paste. Two teaspoons of yoghurt added into the henna mixture can help with dandruff. Lemon juice added in extra amounts is good for oily hair. Adding dried gooseberry powder is recommended if you want the end hair color to have a darker tint than normal.

Wash your hair and dry it before applying the mixture of henna. To protect you and your surrounding from spillage put on some old clothes and place some newspaper on the floor. A strand test should be carried out if you are using henna on your hair for the first time. A strand test involves applying henna on to a few strands of your hair, going from the base of the roots of the tips of the shafts. Wait a few minutes to see whether you show any reactions to it. If not then you can go ahead with the application.

Hand gloves can be worn to keep the henna from staining your hands. Start by parting your hair in the middle. Apply the henna first through the parting and make sure you apply it to both sides, and to the whole length of all the hair on the two sides of the parting. Once you are done with a few strands, roll them up into a bun and separate them from the hair that hasn’t been done yet. Repeat the parting of your hair and continue with the application in this manner until your entire scalp and all your hair is covered by the henna paste.

Leave your hair be for no more than two hours. If the paste is dry by then, wash it away. Once it is completely removed, you can shampoo your hair as normal and then leave it to dry on its own. Your hair will feel smoother and shinier and there will be a change in its color. If you have dark hair there will be red highlights in it. Blond hair will look naturally red with henna.
