Ranking on the 1st and 2nd pages of Google and other major search engines like Yahoo, MSN, Ask.com, AOL and a whole lot more are the TOP priorities of any Internet Marketer and any webmaster for that matter.

1. KEYWORD Research - Let us understand first that we should do our market research first and in this case our keyword research. We would be wasting our time and effort for keywords that are not targeted or are not relevant to what our site is offering.

If for example we have been optimizing our site for weight loss, we would find out it would be pretty impossible to rank in google's 1st and 2nd page because of the enormous supply for the keyword 'weight loss'. That keyword alone has 127,000,000 suppliers from googles search page results.

We are better off if we target keywords like 'lose belly fat' because we have a less number of sites that supply the keyword 'lose belly fat', only about 1,120,000 returned search results.

Next, we should do our keyword demand assessment. Fortunately there is a free tool to just do that and that is Google keyword tool.

Now, enter the keyword that you like and look at the monthly search volume for that keyword. We are basically looking for keyword with a search volume of 2000 and above a month.

Now look for that niche market :

What?? To keep it simple it simply means using the Law of Supply and Demand. Look for a keyword with little supplies and Big Demands (Google Keyword Tool).

Basically, it would be best to stick with long-tail keywords meaning (phrases that contain 3 words or more) than 2 words because it will be more targeted and faster to rank in websites.

I was able to rank my site to the #3rd page of Yahoo using 4 words in a targeted keyword with 4million competitors in as little as 2 weeks. Without heavy link-building and the usual SEO optimization and Web 2.0 technology only.

2. ON-PAGE SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for your Website

The next thing that you should do is focus on the ON-SITE or ON-Page SEO for your site. To summarize these can be fairly done by tweaking and analyzing your:

a. URL - it should contain the keyword

b. TITLE TAG - should contain keyword

c. Keyword Meta and Description - Should contain Keywords

d. H1, Header Tags - Should contain Keywords

e. Content - your keyword should appear about 1 time in every 100-150 words. Make sure it will sound natural.

3. OFF-PAGE SEO

This is the heavy lifting and weightlifting part. You must build links and many backlinks from high Page rank google sites. Why?? Simply because by exchanging links with them, you are able to gain some of the reputation of the site with a good page rank.This will help boost your rankings faster.
