High Metabolism

What Is A High Metabolism

A high metabolism means that the body is burning calories at a greater rate than average. People with high metabolisms can generally eat more food without gaining additional weight which can sometimes be seen as a perk. For others who are forced to constantly consume large amounts of food on a daily basis to maintain their weight, a high metabolism might feel like a curse.

Someone with a high metabolism will frequently alter their diet so they can consume nutrients that are better for weight gaining. In addition to changing the type of food they eat, an increase in the quantity that is eaten may be necessary as well depending on how fast the metabolism is.

What Is The Downside Of A High Metabolism

If you have a high metabolism you might notice that you are having trouble keeping on weight. Even though you think you might be consuming plenty of food if your body is burning it quickly this can result in weight loss. In order to prevent weight loss it is important to understand your daily caloric intake. Keep a food journal which lists what you eat and how many calories each meal contains. You can use this to help you figure out your average daily caloric intake. Once you have figured out your caloric intake you can use it to determine how much more you need to eat every day in order to maintain or gain additional weight. For some this is easier said than done.

A high metabolism during adolescence might contribute to issues during puberty. Young females that have a high metabolism might struggle to keep on weight. Without enough body fat they might not be able to begin normal menstrual cycles.

If you are unable to keep on weight because of a high metabolism you might have a harder time dealing with potential health issues in the future.

What Are The Benefits Of A High Metabolism

As a body with a high metabolism burns food at a much faster rate a person might be able to consume a lot more food without ever putting on addition weight. For some people this is great and they can indulge day after day in their favorite meals.

If you do have a slow or average metabolism you might try to maximize your metabolism by exercising. With frequent exercise you can help to jump start your body’s metabolism which will help you to burn off those extra calories when you need to.

I am 20 years old and have a very high metabolism. The funny thing is, when I was younger my metabolism wasn't as high. Right now I'm about 5'5" and 101.6 lbs. I hate the way my body looks, my bones are showing all over the place. I've tried to gain weight but as soon as I do it's gone again. For example the other day right before bed I weighed myself was 104.3 lbs, and the next morning I was shocked to see that I lost 3 lbs in my sleep. My family doesnt even know what to think of it, I eat and eat, and lose weight. I say it is a curse.

But i have to say i love my body, i dont want to gain wait, but i am scared of the potential health problems i might experience in the future as i have read ontop, i eat about anything but nothing is happening, not that i want something to happen though...

I am 27 and i have been 150 pounds for almost 10 years now. My doctor says my metabolism rate is that of an active 12 year old. I consume about 3500 calories a day, any less and I feel sick. It gets expensive when you sometimes have to order 2 meals at a restaurant, but I still don't gain any weight.

I am 19 going on 20 in two days and at 5'5" I weigh 115 lbs. My doctor told me that I'm 10 pounds underweight and I had to go for blood test because of it. My friends and family tell me to gain weight to the point where they're accusing me of deliberately starving myself. The worst part is I eat all the damn time!!! I eat and eat and eat, but nothing happens and when I do gain weight, I lose like within hours. I need help, can somebody let me know a way to gain weight AND keep it? Thanks !!! :D

Everyone, I'd just like to tell you that you CAN gain weight and mass if you have a high metabolizm.

I have a high metabolizm too, And i figured out my body burns fat like gasoline in a car. So what is the one thing that can make me gain weight besides fat?

MUSCLES of course! Start working out, and apply to a good high-protein diet. I Don't have a single ounce of fat on me, but I'm very good built, and my bones don't stick out everywhere.

I'm an 18 year old guy, 5"9 and I have a very high metabolism. I'm always eating. I find myself in the kitchen every ten minutes eating and looking for more things to eat. Whenever I finish eating, I still feel hungry. I don't eat anything healthy and constantly go to fast food places about 4-5 times a week, once or twice a day. Yet, I am at the same weight for years; 145. I find it crazy how thin I am when I know my eating habits will lead a person, with an average metabolism, to obesity.

i think my metabolism rate changed. :X i'm a female, 15, 1.6m and 41kg. i used to be 47kg, looked fat, and so went on a diet. then i lost 7kg in a year. today my mum said i look ugly cos i'm too skinny and my frens keep saying i eat so little. the truth is, i eat like a pig and they marvelled when i told them what i ate for lunch. so they told me i had a high metabolism rate. i don think i look ugly, it's great to have this thing. :)

I have a high metabolism, and a few months ago weighed 120 lbs as a 20 year old 6 ft man. However, I have taken to smoking marijuana before dinner (and sometimes lunch) and my weight as increased to 135 lbs in a mere 4 months. I'm not advocating this approach, simply telling you my personal situation.

This is for the young girls: I was like you, 17 years old, 90 pounds and ate everything in sight. I didn't like being thin either. Once I hit my late 20's though and saw how women worried about everything they ate, couldn't have pasta or desert without freaking out, couldn't stop their bodies from spreadin out, I realized I was lucky. I'm forty now and look great.

You'll only be young for a while, then for the rest of your life you'll get to stay thin and never have to go on a diet. You'll be the envy of all other women. It sucks now, but just wait. It's awesome.
