Popular with ski and snowboard enthusiasts in the winter, during the summer months Whistler offers some of B.C.’s best hiking trails for all levels of experience from novice to intermediate to advanced hikers.

Set against the majestic CoastMountain range Whistler is less than a two hour drive from Vancouver and with the recent expansion of the Sea-to-Sky Highway getting there just got easier. With ample free parking, adjacent to the Village, there’s no excuse to not get out, explore and take in the beauty of Whistler’s wilderness.

Stop along the way at ShannonFalls

Ranked the third highest waterfall in B.C. this tumultuous cascade just outside of Squamish rises 335 meters above Highway 99. The falls originate from MountHabrich and Sky Pilot. Named after the original owner, Shannon used clay deposits in the surrounding area to make bricks. In 1900 he sold the property to Brittania Copper Mines, owners until 1976 when it was sold to Carling O’Keefe Brewery who in turn donated the land to BC Parks in 1982.

The breathtaking scenery and view points along the Sea-to-Sky Coastal Highway are a photographer’s dream come true.

Whistler Mountain Trails

Lost Lake, a short walk from WhistlerVillage, has an easy 5 km trail loop that meanders along the serene lake shores, passes through woodlands and marshes where coyotes, beavers, otters and an endless variety of birds can be glimpsed. Along the route you can leave the beaten path and connect with other trail networks by following the signs along the way.

Ridge Lookout is a short, steep hike of only 0.8 km, but can easily be done within 25 to 35 minutes. This single track trail begins at the Heli-pad uphill from the Roundhouse.

Paleface Trail is a 1km hike through alpine flowers and old-growth forest leading to several viewpoints where you can take in spectacular Black Tusk, an extinct volcano.

Harmony Lake and Trail Loop winds through beautiful alpine forests, with scenic lake views and a chance to stop and watch marmots in their natural environment. Including the loop it’s a 3.5 km hike.

The Peak Interpretive Walk can be accessed from the Roundhouse lookout by taking the Peak Chair to the summit. This 1 km stroll showcases the alpine ecosystem and offers up exceptional views of the distinctive Black Tusk peak.

High Note Trail, for intermediate to advanced hikers, is also accessed from the summit. This trail is a 10 km hike that traverses untouched alpine meadows, passing through the mountain’s rocky south slope before connecting with Musical Bumps Trail.

Musical Bumps is a 21 km long trail where you can enjoy views of Cheakamus Glacier and Lake as well as Black Tusk. From the top of Whistler Mountain Gondola you pass three summits before reaching SingingPass. You can either back track the route or take the trail descending to the Village.
