History of coins-Silver dollars
76I love Silver dollars. They are so fun to collect.I will go through the history of Silver dollars with pictures. If you haven't seen the other hubs in this series, the links are below.
Spanish 8 Reales
8 Reale Standard
The original 13 colonies did not have there own money supply.Almost everything that needed a monetary exchange used the Spanish 8 Reales. They were called "milled dollars"because the blanks or planchets were milled to make sure they were consistently the same weight.
Our forefather's knew we couldn't and shouldn't rely on a outside source for our money and they built the mint in Philadelphia.

Morgan Dollar
Probably my favorite collector coin is the Morgan dollar. It was named after the designer,George Morgan.they wee minted from 1878-1904 and then they minted them one more year in 1921.The main reason for the Morgan dollar was the discovery of the comstock lode,a major silver find in Nevada. The mint put out lots of Morgan dollars. In the 1960's our government found bags of them in vaults in Ft. Knox.

Sure wish we could compu-smart,I need some for my collection!!
I have some Ikes and a few Susan B Anthony's. Again, these ones are cool. I guess I just like the big coins because they are unusual.
Never mind, Even though i don't have my coins anymore, at least i have my Froggys Coin Collection Hubs;?)
With those in-your-face coin shots, your hub is where other coin hubs revolve, so I am really not worthy!!! Thumbs up, fanned, and cheers! Looking forward to your visiting my art glass and carnival glass hubs!
I am a huge fan of the Morgan Dollar as well. I have used http://www.morgandollar.com to find many of the coins in my collection.
