History of HubPages
67
Frankly, I am ill equipped to tell you the history of HubPages. There are many qualified senior members here who can tell the story better. But then I thought why not dig a little deep and see whether I can come up with something. Well, here's what I've found.
In January 2006, a group of three enterprising adventurers left their home and family, and moved into a three level house in Berkeley, California. They are none other than the now famous Paul Edmondson the CEO, Jay Reitz and Paul Deeds the engineers. Paul Edmondson was previously the Group Product Manager for MSN Entertainment, Jay Reitz was the Development Manager, and Paul Deeds was a developer in Windows Media Internet Services. So that's a formidable team. (Jason Menayen and Tom Schirmer joined the company in September whose roles are in marketing and software respectively)
You can find the story in Paul's words HERE
After a lot of hard work, development, trial and testing the website was finally launched on August 5th 2006 with the help of Hummer Winblad - a venture partner. Paul and company managed to raise $2 million in funding from Winblad and Mitchel Kertzman represents them on the HubPages director's board.
Paul admits that the company wouldn't have gotten this far without Winblad, friends and family, especially Paul's wife Robin, who is a great hubber here.

I have seen a lot of develpoment and improvement here since I have joined 24 weeks ago. The look and feel of the HubPages are much better now. Features like picture slide shows, video clips(currently only from YouTube and Google) and a very helpful member's forum are a part of the site now. The adult stuff is no more acceptable and a more refined scoring system is in place. The periodic News Letters help the members with tips and keep abreast of the latest developments at the site. Although there are still room for improvement, in my opinion, the site has become the best in similar categories with more than 40,000 registered members and growing.
By May 2007 HubPages were attracting around 2.4 million unique visitors a month which I think must have come down a little bit since the adult Hubbers have moved out. According to Duncan Riley of TechCrunch, Paul claims that a handful of Hubbers are making around 1000 Dollars a month with the Top Hubber making around 1800 Dollars a month. I do not know for sure but certainly those figures are quite inspirational for me, since I never made anything anywhere near!
In my opinion HubPages are poised for better growth and future with some more improvements and upgrades in the anvil. Way to go!
ALL THE BEST TO MY FELLOW HUBBERS & THE HUB TEAM!

thanks for digging...:-) im new at hubpages and im still trying to find out how to go about this. but really, you can earn as much as that? gee... that would be great. any tips on how i could do that?
Totally didn't know Robin was married to Paul...:P
Great Hub. I began writing for HubPages last October. I was impressed with the site and the people writing for it from the start. Since then I have seen a lot of improvements in the site and a huge growth in authors and articles. Your history was a great read and very informative. It was nice learning how this site did get started.
Now if someone could just tell us how to make $1,000 to $1,800 per month that would be great. It seems amazing but I don't doubt the statistics after hearing a jobs report on TV a few months ago in which they commented on the large number of jobs that had been created and one of the commentators concluded with "...and these numbers don't include all the people out there who are earning a living with Google Ads."
Thanks again for a great hub. Chuck
Thank you for the comment Chuck. When I joined around 6 months ago, I knew basically nothing about revenue sharing sites except some forums and PTC sites. I have learned a lot since then. To be frank with you my education was and is from senior members like you at HubPages, from the articles by the fellow members here. HubPages have grown, and I think my growth is also stemmed on that. The Hub Team was always there to help and guide me when in doubt. Perhaps, it is their support, apart from the friendliness and ease of this site, (and of course the money factor too)are the things which stopped me from drifting away to other sites of same nature.
Yes. I would also like to make the figures you mentioned! I am also waiting for someone to tell me how to do it!! I have read about people making fortunes through Adsense. Perhaps some day.........
Thank you so much for all your support and guidance.
Best Regards
