Hockey Stick Switch Blade
633 periods...2 teams...1 game...Hockey
The game of hockey is played on ice and is my favorite sport.
The equipment involved to play hockey includes skates, helmet, gloves and stick. Canadians (the inventors of the game) historically use their weak hand for stick holding, puck handling and shooting. Simply put - a right handed person in Canada will hold the stick as if they were a left handed person. I have seen a mix in the USA where some right hand individuals follow the Canadian methodology and use their left (weak hand) for stick holding, puck handling and shooting while others use their strong (right) hand stick holding, puck handling and shooting.
A hockey stick is a simple piece of equipment with a shaft and a blade. The skaters in hockey can have the blade of a stick favor their strong hand or their weak hand. I am left handed and use a left handed stick but what if I wanted to use a right handed stick?
Baseball has the switch hitter so why doesn't hockey have a switch skater?
In baseball, a player can toggle between hitting left handed vs. right handed by simply crossing over home plate, facing the opposite direction and changing the way he holds the bat. How would a switch skater accomplish the same objective? (he would have to skate back to the bench and switch sticks because the blade of the stick is curved to favor left or right handed individuals - but not both).
So...I propose that a new generation of hockey sticks are created. At the touch of a button on the shaft of the stick, the skater has the choice to use their strong hand or weak hand for puck handling and/or shooting. If this type of stick existed then the blade would toggle left vs. right or strong hand vs. weak hand.
Now...If I only had a shooting area (like batting cages) for hockey, I may never leave...

It certainly would make the game more interesting...thanks for the good comments...
Great hub. From a former goaltender, I'd say the offensive players do not need any more help. :>)
It would apply to the goalies also :) Only more difficult...thanks for the comment
Good hub. We don't get much hockey around here - no ice! I think I'd like it, though.
thanks habee - I wish there were more ponds around here so I can test this proposed tool :)

Having an extra ability on the ice/field/court/park will be an advantage to the player as it will give him an edge, especially when fighting over a puck while in close proximity with the puck. You got my vote, mtsi1098! Thanks.
