Holed up, surrounded by snow, I discover something new about managing Hubpages
56Last week's blizzard dropped 7", this one 15"
Unable to move our cars from the garage, we four found activities indoors that kept constantly falling snow from driving us stir crazy.
Certainly, I dug into Hubpages, where I discovered much that was new. But one realization took longer to formulate.
Hubpage goals
Racing from hub to hub
with good intent
I skim each surface
pausing
as a new idea
glimmers
Why am I racing
I ask myself
Why am I concerned
with numbers
Wouldn't it be best
to slow
even this activity
To perhaps read
ALL of one hubster
versus one of many
So that comments made
wrap around
the entirety of a person
and not what may
only be present
in this hub and
this moment
The goal has never been
quantity
but depth

That is definitely not a bad idea at all! Hopefully I don't get that much snow where I am. Driving in the snow takes a lot of skill by the way and living in Upstate New York was my greatest teacher! Thanks again.
There is sooo much that is good to read here! You make a great point when you state, "The goal has never been quantity but depth". :D
BTW, That is a wonderfully relaxing video!
Thank you for your comments. I will spend time with each of you soon. I appreciate your persepectives! For now, I am off to shovel snow heavy with melting... turns out I was wrong. We got two feet!
I am cold just reading this! Beautiful pictures. It is a good point you make. It is hard to find the time to read as many hubs with as much attention as I would like.
I frequently have the same feelings, almost as if I'm obligated to deal with every email notification. The emails and Hubtivity are a very clever device for turning occasional participants into addicts.
'The goal has never been quantity but depth'. it applies to every aspect of hubbing - from writing to making comments.
well said. I've been out of HP for a couple weeks now but have alot of catching up to do as my email is flooded with new hubs I refuse to delete until thoroughly read. great minds think alike :)
Nice hub, Story.
There are very few hubbers whose every word I will usually read ... as for the others, I read only if the subject mentioned in the notification seems to hold some interest ... and I think there are many emails from hubpages accumulated in my inbox to be attended to later!
That's a lovely video at the end .... and such soothing music too .... :)
What lovely pictures!I agree with you - sometimes you need to read a lot more of a hubber to get a true picture. Love that video - that piece is also on their Dreamcatcher album, I think?
Look what the weather brought! All these lovely comments and a growing mound of snow, as we pile one shovel full on top of another. The sun is beating the snow into a mush and we expect 60 degree weather by the end of the week. Go figure.
Your words stand alone, and I am not going to comment on them, suffice to say I am thrilled to find them waiting for me this morning. The snow may be crusting but your affections warm my heart. Thank you all.
Shalini, yes, this is on the Dreamcatcher album! I love Secret Garden's music and I am glad you know it.
I love taking this perspective when reading hubs. We all share our hearts and open ourselves up to scrutiny when we write, and I suppose we all want to be understood and encouraged. I have honed in on some hubbers (such as you, Storyteller) who I feel a connection with, and whose work I really enjoy. I'm going to make the effort to get to know more hubbers in greater depth. Thanks for sharing your insight.
Excellent!
I too "waste" time reading. But it is very interesting.
But I feel sorry for you. It is 61 degrees here!
Nothing could be finer.......
loved this hub...and yes, 'not quantity but depth'...how true! one could spend the whole day reading and still not be able to do justice to each and every hub and writer here! it's a real challenge actually! anyway, thanks for this..and the pics too!
I love to read more that writing, there are so many interesting Hubber, and so many wonderful topics. Nice pictures too!
You are one hubber I don't think I'll ever fully understand. Maybe because you write deep, and you are not stagnant. That's why I keep reading.
It's hubs like this that make me want to read others' work. Keep it up, you're getting someone who doesn't like to read to read more.
Just read Blake's comment above, and don't think I can say anything better than that!
I can, though, thank you for Secret Garden: I had forgotten how much I like their music.
Monday morning in (surprisingly!) sunny Sussex, and I'm catching up on some hubs after a busy half term week. Seems strange looking out of the window at the sunlight, brightening trees full of Autumn leaves, to think of you in the snow, thousands of miles away. Your contemplation about quality and depth is not wrong. Why do we read these hubs, if not to gain some personal satisfaction?
Thank you everyone, for your kind thoughts, your encouragement, your understanding. I have learned so much for each of you and look forward to reading your latest.
Quantity but not depth.. exactly :) what we all look for is not quantity but the depth it possess..
thanks, terrowhite.

I agree with you. I have spent more hours reading on HP than writing. I will frequently read several hubs by the same author to get a deeper understanding of the person and what was written.
