Ask Susan Peters - Vets Choice Healthy Dog Foods?

Vets Choice Pet Food has done a fair job of making healthy dog foods. Healthy dog foods do not include needless grains and other pet health damaging ingredients.

Salt - Should not be added to a cat or dog's diet.

Chicken Fat - Used to encourage a cat or dog to eat ingredients the pet would normally not eat.

Sodium selenite is mainly used in the manufacture of colorless glass - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Beet pulp is another cheap filler used by pet food companies. "Beet Pulp" sounds good, doesn't it? Well it's not. Just because Grandma told us we had to eat our beets as kids doesn't mean it is good for our dogs. Grandma didn't take the nutrients out of the beet and leave us just the dried fiber to eat, did she? Beet pulp is junk.

Brewer's rice and brewer's dried yeast are by-products of beer production. There you go, your little pet gets what is left over after a beer run, the stuff not fit for human consumption.

Pet food producers are using ingredients unfit for human consumption which are killing our pets. The ingredients in pet food must be changed!

The use of Corn, Wheat, and Soy are causing such awful conditions in pets including:

  • Dry and itchy skin
  • Fever
  • Ear aches
  • Ear infections
  • Hot Spots on the skin
  • Bad breath
  • Dental disease
  • IBD
  • Hair loss
  • Sore feet
  • Abnormal nail growth
  • Bloat
  • Weight gain
  • Tumors
  • Moles and warts
  • Seizures
  • Blindness
  • Deafness
  • Heart conditions
  • Kidney conditions
  • Liver conditions
  • Early pet death

These companies need to be held accountable for the injuries to our pets and our best friends early deaths!

Vets Choice Pet Foods I'm not sure you are making Healthy Dog Foods. - Susan

We have a 4.5 month old Weimaraner that is having troubles with very loose BMs. We have tried changing his food but nothing seems to help. The vet wants to keep running tests on him. He is eating a Holistic food called Vetenarian Prefered. I believe it comes out of Canada. Has anyone heard of this food? Is it good or not?

Are you serious? Where do you actually get your research. The "SALT" that is added is "Trace Mineral Salt" Animals need trace mineral supplements. They are needed in very small amounts, or traces, in the diet, and hence their name, "trace minerals." The minerals are best delivered through Salt. That's directly from the Salt Institute.

What's wrong with the chicken fat? We as humans add a bit of gravy to make our food taste better. If you ate the same thing everyday, day in and day out, you'd hope for a bit of something to entice you to eat it as well.

Beet Pulp is an insoluble fiber. Need I explain why fiber is good for you? Read more at PetEducation.com

Brewers Yeast isn't indigestible by humans it's used in baking and brewing thus it's name. It's mostly made up of protein. In fact Brewers Yeast as in a study done by University of Kentucky found that Brewers Yeast had immunological traits enhancements. http://jas.fass.org/cgi/content/abstract/80/10/261

You go off about the Soy, Wheat, and Corn, but none of these are found in Vet's Choice Health Extensions.

The rating scale above give Vet's Choice Health Extensions gives them an 8/10. I will argue that the MINUS 1 they were given for the Yeast, Salt, and Beets are a mistake. They should receive a 9/10 according to this scale. And if the only negative you can find is a little gravy to make it taste good then by all means I'll take that negative.
