Natural Remedies for Shingles

Facing chickenpox was probably bad enough when you experienced it as a child, but contracting shingles, which is virtually the same virus in adulthood, is not pleasant or welcome. It recurs due to it having never really left your body the first time around. Unfortunately, the virus can emerge later in life due to the immune system becoming badly impacted or perhaps through older age or just general poor health. Statistics show that approximately 50% of the cases of shingles seem to occur in those who are over the age of 60.

Symptoms can vary and include:

  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Chills
  • Stomach upset
  • Headaches

These symptoms can make the sufferer feel generally unwell but then the burning sensation of the rash starts to form. Starting out as small pink bumps, they then turn into blisters. Unfortunately, the rash is often very painful and can be increasingly itchy too.

Until the blisters actually scab over, the infection can be passed over to anyone who has not had chickenpox or who is pregnant, has a low immunity and it can even spread to new born babies, so limit contact until the shingles reaches that non-infectious stage.

Shingles can make the sufferer feel very miserable and it can take a while before the virus starts to lose its hold, so it is worth having a look at some natural tried and tested self- help remedies as these can help to ease the pain and the uncomfortable feelings associated with shingles, such as:

Cayenne Pepper and Aloe Vera Gel

Mix small parts of the pepper and gel and apply immediately and this will help for pain relief.

Increase Vitamin C

To quickly boost your immune system, take between 1000mg and 2000mg a day of Vitamin C.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar can be used to help combat the pain of the shingles virus. Apply directly to the areas which are affected, just dab gently with a cloth and then leave to dry. Can be added as and when necessary and helps the blisters to heal more quickly.

Meditation

Meditation can help to promote healing and aid pain relief. Just learn some simple and yet effective techniques which will help you to promote natural healing from within.
