Celeb Perks

Oh the perks of celebrityhood! Ooooh, la la. Design houses like Valentino, Gucci, Chanel, and Prada ceasingly implore Hollywood beauties to parade about in pricey, up-to-the-minute, hot-off-the-ramp duds. Dresses, gowns, shoes, bags, sunglasses; all bestowed upon these Goddesses. Prestigious coveted confections; from massive Vuitton patent bags to pie-sized Chanel goggles, not to mention being drizzled with red-carpet jewels.

The Olsens (and a gaggle of their cohorts) have parlayed their moment of fame into iconic status via fashion. Hollywood sells elusive and fleeting images that evoke an auroa of unobtainability. The tribe from Gossip Girl sets style-standards that tower above us, instilling an attitude of worship. As our celebrity fervor intensifies, our devotion is without abandon.

Compete or Copy?

Be an Ugly Betty? Strive to emulate fashion's impossibilities? Wash our hands of this entire competition? How can we, mere mortals, stride at our own fashion pace without being overshadowed by the glare of celebrity? Considering the playing field is less than level, Fashion Gods have loaded the celebrity fashionista's deck, and odds are swaying toward their fashion savvy hands; competing is a no-win.

Copy? Not an option!

Take Your (Fashion) Stand

Live in sync with our times. Wear your look with pride. Infuse your image with unique individuality. Develop "signature style". March to your own fashion beat. With your head held high, with your shoulders erect, wearing your own precocious li'l pumps, walk through life with celeb level style. Live by fashion rules that you have dictated!

Rule # 1

Feel the comfort. Style should be both physically and emotionally comfortable! This does not mean opting for a slouchy or sloppy approach to dressing. Think instead simple, uncomplicated, and easy to wear. Harari comes to mind. Emotional comfort originates from being at ease in your own skin. To feel "at home" in your outfit let your style be a reflection of the woman who resides within.

Rule # 2

Use celebs only as style guideposts. Look to fashion-plates simply for direction--never for submission. Watch these beauties; copy what you like, apply their fashion sense in varying doses to create your own signature look.

Rule # 3

Find fashionista inspiration. Sources can include favorite designers, everyday women with style that you admire, or models and celebrities with a look that you find interesting.

Rule # 4

Find fashion jackpots. Places to locate lush designer booty. Favorite sellers on eBay? A thrift store with unique finds? Vintage pieces from your Dad's trunk or Mom's closet? Prowl and look around. Find personal fashion sources and frequent them often.

Rule # 5

Enjoy! Experiment. Play, Grow. Change. Let your look of the moment signify where you are at today!

Until we connect again, follow your own fashion path, stride at your own blissful pace, and walk your look.

Great rules to live by, even if we're not being showered with luscious freebies for a red carpet stroll!
