Homage to Pablo Neruda
64
Pablo Neruda's poetry has some bitterness to it, and some anger. Even his poems of love are tinged. Yet in the wounded nature there is much beauty and much that this real. I use his style here to be as real as I can for you, my love.
Envision. I come to your house, make friends with the dog, come inside, stand by the chair of the color that so brings out your piercing eyes when juxtaposed - the chair that holds such sweet memories. I say,
"This is called...."
Make Me a Gift
Make me a gift
Your smile
When I grind my life
The sameness of the day
Like stones
A chafing dust
Your smile is a fresh breeze
And all life's doors ajar
Your smile
Is different sizes for different occasions
Small to shake your head at a foolish poet
Big in unreserved joy
Like the sun
Your smile
Opens the closed door
Charms the heart
The anticipated flower
Rising courageously out of snow
Bringing spring
To a heart of winter
For your smile
I am a magnet of possibility
An attractor of means to see
A lens
I started writing in the subway
But your smile raised me to my feet
Out of the darkness
Out to the fountain
Water's sweet music
Reminding of your voice
Joy
Reminding of your smile
Make me a gift
My love

"Unrequited" means, "not returned in kind." However, she gives much more than I can give or ever repay, filling me to overflowing. All I can give in return are these poor verses. :)
Not Telling, you truly astound me. Whew!
Ah, I am only a poet in love. To be loved is truly astounding.
Not Telling, you pay her a great tribute, and as for your 'poor verses' they are not.
Yes, I agree. To be loved IS truly astounding! I agree with Hawkesdream, these are not "poor verses" by any means. They are actually the upmost wealth anyone person could wish in a lifetime!
Thank you, Hawkesdream and Invictus. I try to do work worthy of my love and I am happy that you both approve of it. I say they are 'poor verses' because all gifts are inadequate for someone as special as my love. Were I Poet Laureate, I could have no higher praise but for her to say she likes the poems I wrote for her. Since I have this, I have everything.
oh my god..... is this for me
I'm glad you like it, Brenda :)
I like you x
are you writing more, i am keeping them all in a lavender book...
I hope to write a poem every day for my love, but sometimes I have to think a little longer before I fully grasp what it is I want to say. It's nice you are collecting them, Brenda.
I know what you mean, poetry can not be written to order, and I am just waiting patiently, as are all your other fans I am sure...
You are too kind. :)
