Home Based Business Ideas and Tax Saving Tips
65It’s a great time to generate some home based business ideas. Tax time is soon upon us. The biggest expense in your life is most likely taxes. Owning a home based business can cut those taxes down to a much happier contribution.
This country needs our money to run. Whether it’s building roads or making bombs, feeding the poor or putting out fires, it all takes money. So why does the government let you pay fewer dollars in taxes if you run a business? Simple. Small business drives this economy. Large businesses employ a lot of people in one place but small businesses employ many more people. Without entrepreneurs who take a risk and build a small business there would be more unemployed workers than we have even now. Government rewards those who start a business by giving them tax breaks. Simple, right?
So what’s that got to do with you? Are you the type to start a $1,000,000 business and hire 14 people? Wow. I’m scared just writing that. That’s a huge undertaking for many of us. So let’s start small. There are businesses that can be started with little risk in the comfort of your own home. Some require an upfront investment of as little as $500 or less. And the tax breaks alone can be significant enough to justify the cost.
There are over one hundred different deductions that you may be eligible for simply by running a business from home. Tax saving tips are worth their weight in gold. The thing to remember is this: the IRS tends to have unpleasant feelings toward you if you don’t keep good records. If you can document the expense properly you have a tax deduction. You need to keep good records. You don’t have to make a profit to take the tax deductions but you do need to have the intention of making a profit. Why else would you go through the trouble of running a business anyway?
Keeping track of your business expenses can mean separate checking accounts or credit cards. It can mean tracking business cash flow on a computer. There are computer programs available to help with this. Using a web based program has the advantage of security. Did that sound counter intuitive? How is your information more secure online than on your computer at home? If you are like me and use a laptop it can be stolen, dropped, or any number of kids can do all kinds of evil with it. (My one year old tore off the Tab key and I had to replace the whole keyboard.) The hard drive can fail and you could lose all your information. Ever hear about viruses? Antivirus software is good but not perfect. The security software on your computer is not that secure for someone who really wants to get in. Kind of like the deadbolt on your front door. The security on your bank’s website is much better. That is the level of security you can expect with online storage of your tax info.
You need the ability to track your tax deductable expenses. You need to prove the expense, or at least be able to if you ever get an inconvenient letter from the IRS. Home based business ideas are good but without documentation it was just an idea, it didn’t happen. One system that tracks expenses and even suggests them for you is Udeduct. It pays for itself many times over in tax saving tips. It can be used alone or with the other business tools that come packaged together in Bizpack. Whether you use Udeduct or some other system, properly tracking your legitimate business expenses can save you a lot of money.

Great article. What many people don't realize is that if they started a home-based business (for say, a $175 fee), and just took advantage of what they can now deduct from taxes, they would more than make up the cost of starting the business.
Well said Steve. Great information. Udeduct is a wonderful tool.
I have personally reaped the rewards of running a home-based business, just with the tax deductions I get that would be unavailable otherwise. For example, I now write-off the entire $2800 annual expense of major medical insurance against my income Talk about a tax saver! And that's just one example. There are lots more like Steve pointed out.
Good post, Steve.
Udeduct is the most revotutionary help anyone has has come up to help the small home business owner get the tax deductions they deserve, legally.
