When you think of home decorating, you probably think of hiring someone for exorbitant amounts of money that will come in and change your couches, your tables, your curtains, your lighting, your shelving and even your carpets and paint-and you probably moan when you think about it, realizing that your house will never really be your home again. But the truth is, home decorating can be as simple as using accessories to change a space, make it more inviting and make it livable. If your home feels alien to you, whether you or a professional decorated, it's time to add some accessories and take your home back.

Today, most of us have so many accessories and so little time on our hands that we throw all of our accessories up on shelves, on the walls or on the floors-accessories can include your area rugs too!-without thinking about what we're doing and we use the excuse that we're not creative enough to properly place items or to know which ones belong and which ones should be packed away or thrown out. 

The truth is that decorating with accessories is only as hard as we make it. If you have decorative items in your home that you love, either because they show off your style or bring out the best memories, you should make room for those items somewhere you'll always see them. But if you have items you haven't gotten rid of for fear of hurting a friend's feelings or because you're too indecisive to make the change, it's time to pack it up or pack it out.

The one accessory you should always be able to find a place for is your area rugs, especially if they are beautiful and high quality. There's no point in hiding them away, especially since area rugs will only collect dust and moths in dark corners of closets or in your basement. Utilizing your area rugs in each room of your home can also help you make decisions as to which accessories to keep out and which to pack away or throw out. A beautiful modern area rug can help point out the sore thumbs in your collection and make it easier to wrap them in newspaper and stick them in a dark closet. 

The thing to remember is that packing away certain accessories doesn't mean you won't ever see them again. It only means that you're putting them away for a little while. Think of it like holidays, where you put away your regular décor and take out the holiday décor to make your house seem festive. Changing out your décor and giving it a holiday can help liven up your home and make you appreciate the beauty of certain pieces more since they won't be permanent fixtures. 

Remember, accessorizing your home is the best way to give it personality and make it worth living in. But don't limit yourself-have fun and use the accessories that show your style the best!
