Home Energy efficiency tips

Lets face it we live in different times now.We all are more conscious of our surroundings and the environment. Now with global warming on our minds,we are less likely to leave that oh so taboo carbon footprint. Not to mention the inventive ways we all are finding to save money.Well why not let your home become more energy efficient and save some money at the same time. Not to mention the loads of rebates the government will give you,if you make your home more energy efficient.Just make sure you look for the energy star logo on the appliances you purchase, that is because those appliances are the ones the government usually recognizes when it comes to rebates.
Insulation
One of the most important things you can do for your home in the terms of overall home energy efficiency is proper home insulation. There are several types of methods for home insulation. You can try fiberglass insulation, foam spray, or just rigid foam board.
Clothes washers
With the new more energy efficient washers and dryers you can cut your water bill almost in half.By switching from a conventional washer to these low water using models. You probably could save enough money over the year to buy a second machine.
Dishwashers
Compared to conventional dishwashers the new energy efficient dishwashers can also save you loads in money. When it comes down too your water bill. Also when trying to save the most out of your dishwasher remember try using your dishwasher's air dry option.
Air condtioners
This appliance is particularly more important to people living in warm areas. Also the typical a/c can be a huge energy hog.I highly recommend that you switch to a more energy efficient a/c.As doing will save around about 10% on your overall energy bill. They also emit less green house gas than your average a/c.
Tankless water heater
Heating your water and home can really add up over one year.Especially if you use the old fashioned bulky tank water heater. But a tank-less water heater can save up to 30% on your overall energy savings throughout the year. The tank-less heaters only heat the water when you need it and take up a whole lot less space. They usually last up to twenty years. So the investment might be worth it overall.
Solar water heaters
The solar water heater is really energy efficiency at its best.It is a water heater powered by the sun, with solar panels installed on the roof with a gas tank for backup. This system is still fairly new and very costly but over time it will pay for itself,by saving on your home energy bill greatly with an almost infinite resource for power for your home.
Refrigerators
Refrigerators are a real energy consumer in many homes, because this piece of equipment runs 24hrs a day seven days a week. But by switching over to more energy efficient fridges you can save 20% less on energy.Always remember though that a really good way to save energy with any type of refrigerator,is to keep the coils in the back clean and always keep some space between the fridge and the wall. This will create less work for the refrigerators motor and less energy being wasted in the end.
Home lighting
When lighting your home pay special attention to low energy fixtures and ceiling fans. But one good suggestion is to switch most bulbs in your home to more energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs,or curly bulbs as i sometimes call them. These bulbs use about seventy five percent less energy as the regular round bulb.So sprinkle a couple of these around your home and watch for the savings.
Sealing
Make sure your home is properly sealed,so as not to lose energy from your home through cracks.Leaks are usually easy to find you can just feel around for them. You can seal most homes with either spray foam, weather stripping,or just a plain old caulk and gun.

Great Tips thanks for the information, now just to put some of them in to effect :)
Thanks for this informative hub. Good job.
Good tips. To actually cut down on electricity bills, one has to monitor one's energy consumption, along with what you listed here - the particular appliances that, when allowed to just run their course, would bleed you dry. Everyone needs to monitor their power consumption so that some bills might be paid on time, like mortgages.
You're spot on about the air conditioners and the refrigerators. They really are power vampires, and I agree that buying a newer model, which are most energy efficient and suited to your needs (you don't need a powerful aircon for a small flat, and neither do you need a two-door fridge when you live alone). I'm into home improvement, which is why I found your hub.
