When to decide it's time for a change

When you've been living in a houise for a very long time, the hardest thing is top decide when your home really needs a renovation. Of course, you've been doing all those maintenance things we always do, you've replaced everything that's been broken or worn too much.

However, from time to time, we see that major changes are a must, because our old stuff can't look good anymore, no matter what we do.

How expensive home improvement can be?

Home improvement can be as expensive as you afford it to be. If you have money, you can do whatever your imagination tells you. If you have little money, you can do small changes that offer big effects. For example, simply by changing an inexpensive kitchen window curtain you can obtain a great look for your kitchen, especially if you buy some more fabric, which will serve you to make table clothes or napkins.Of course, if you have money, plantation shutters are one of the most elegant window treatments available, so you could consider them for your rooms.

No matter you budget, just make sure to buy quality stuff and to take good care of everything in your hose, so they can have a longer lifetime.

How to replace windows by yourself

Why replacing your old windows is good

Windows are not that easy to replace, therefore there are houses which feature the same windows like they did 100 years ago. These homeowners should know that they pay much more for their energy bills than modern people, who changed old windows with modern, low-E, double pane ones, with very good insulation and with an improved R-value. R-value is an index wihich measures the efficiency of insulation for elements such as windows or doors. Glass has naturally an R-value of 1, which makes it very bad for preventing thermal exchanges. If you havwe sucdh windows, you'd better think of some measures to keep the heat you pay for inside of your rooms. Thermal curtains can be an idea, but if you can, replace your windows with the insulated, modern ones. I know such windows aren't cheap, but they last for a long time with minimum maintenance, so they are a good choice, especially if you live in cold and windy ares.

I've replaced the windows in one room last year with those low-e ones. The change has been great, not only in tthermal insulation, but also in terms of noise - less noises from the street come into my home now. I'm going to replace also the other windows when I'll have the money.
