Forty-five percent of normal adults snore at least occasionally, and 25 percent are habitual snorers. Problem snoring is more frequent in males and overweight persons, and it usually grows worse with age.


If you have a problem with snoring, and would like to deal with in a simple manner, then you do have options. There are many solutions to snoring that don't cost a lot of money.

One of the home remedies for snoring would be to do soft palate exercises. Use a mirror to help you do these exercises. Practice daily for about 10 to 20 minutes.

  • Open and close your mouth slowly several times.
  • Pucker your lips, as for a kiss, hold, then relax.
  • Spread lips into a big smile, hold, then relax.
  • Pucker, hold, smile, hold.
  • Open your mouth then try to pucker with your mouth wide open. Don't close your jaw.
  • Close your lips tightly and press together.
  • Close your lips firmly, slurp all the saliva onto the top of your tongue.
  • Open your mouth and stick out your tongue. Be sure your tongue comes straight out of your mouth and doesn't go off to the side. Work toward sticking your tongue out farther each day, but still pointing straight ahead.
  • Stick out your tongue and move it slowly from corner to corner of your lips. Be sure your tongue actually touches each corner each time.
  • Stick out your tongue and try to reach your chin with the tongue tip. Hold at farthest point.

Stop sleeping on your back. Try sleeping on your side. Using a pillow against your back, you can prop yourself on your side.

Don't drink alcohol before bed. This will prevent the alcohol from relaxing throat muscles and causing obstructions in the air ways.

Avoid consuming dairy products before bed. Dairy products may cause mucus buildup in your throat.

Don't use a pillow (or pillows) that put your neck at a sharp angle. This can cause obstruction that leads to snoring.

Keep in mind that these suggested home remedies for snoring are not to be used in lieu of a doctor visit. If you feel you snoring problem is serious enough to make your health detoriate, be sure to visit a doctor about the problem. For example, if your snoring issue is accented by waking up sweating, gasping for air or choking, as well as feeling generally tired in the daytime, there is a chance that you have sleep apnea, a harmful disorder that requires serious attention.
