Home Remedies for Acne and Pimples
76Persistent acne plagues millions of people each year, adults and adolescents alike. It can cause permanent scarring and low self-esteem if left untreated. Even those with otherwise clear complexions are prone to the occasional zit once in a while, and usually at the most inconvenient times, like the morning of a big interview or the night before the homecoming dance. There are plenty of quick fix solutions on the market, but sometimes a home remedy is all you need--or all you can afford.
Toothpaste
People used to think that white toothpaste could be used to dry up a pimple. This may have been true back in the day, when toothpaste contained zinc, which decreased inflammation. Toothpastes today, however do not contain this ingredient, and applying toothpaste to a zit is actually counterproductive.
Crushed aspirin
Salicylic acid, which can be found in most acne medications, is also present in generic aspirin. Crushing up one tablet and combining it with a dab of water to make a paste can ease acne by absorbing the excess oil and decreasing any inflammation. However, because there is such a large amount of salicylic acid in aspirin, people with sensitive skin should avoid this home remedy as it may cause irritation.
Visine eye drops
Visine has an ingredient that functions as an anti-inflammatory and helps remove the redness from a pimple by shrinking blood vessels. Apply a few drops of Visine, followed by a dab of benzoyl peroxide acne medication to get rid of problem zits.
Essential oils
Different combinations of various essential oils can be used to combat acne prone skin. One such method is to combine 1ml witch hazel, 1ml tea-tree and 1ml sweet fennel with 300mls of water. Place a lid on the container and shake well before using. Use a cotton swab to dab the affected area with the mixture 2-3 times daily. The oils will unclog the pores and give extra protection to the skin.
Flour and egg whites
For smoother, clearer skin, mix equal parts corn flour with egg whites until a thick paste is formed. Apply to face and neck, concentrating on areas that are the most acne-prone. Allow paste to dry for at least a half hour, then use your hands to gently massage and wash off the paste with warm water.
Honey and cinnamon
A honey and cinnamon mixture is said to be so effective that pimples will disappear FOREVER. I don't know about all that, but it's worth a shot! Start by mixing 3 tablespoons of honey with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon (powder). Stir until a paste is formed, then apply paste directly to the pimples before going to bed. When you wake up the next morning, wash off the paste with lukewarm water. Continue to repeat the process for two weeks for best results.

It will change your life!
Hello Becauseilive -
I think I will try the egg white with the flour one. The last one (honey and cinnamon) I doubt I will ever try because that would get your pillow all gross. Sleeping with honey on your face!?!?! Ewww. Is there any way for that one to be a set amount of time to keep it on your face then just wash it off? Like maybe an hour?
I think I'll also try the egg white and flour one on my chest and back. I have just a bit of ance on both and its very annoying and looks bad. Is there any thing better for these areas or is the egg white and flour one fine?
Thanks for all your help, ~Sash
