71Research Your Home Security System
So many wonderful things are coming into our lives these days as technology quickly brings us new conveniences and advancements. With so much positive happening around us it is too bad that there is also more need than ever to make home security a priority in our lives. However, it is encouraging to know that there are many simple tips and tricks that you can implement around your home that are actually very effective tools in improving security and deterring crime. Home security research is key to finding a cost effective solution.
There are really two primary categories that encompass these security tips for your home and these are: low cost techniques and no cost techniques that are effective for times when you are at home, while away at the office, or away on vacation. Both approaches are important and relevant in protecting personal property and preventing theft. Home security research is going to allow you to keep your costs down and have an effective means to protect your home and family.
Even when at home in your comfortable surroundings, you can still be at risk of an aggressive intruder set on the theft of your property. Reports indicate that even while violent crimes are in decline, home burglaries are on the increase in most areas, and it happens fairly frequently that the owner is at home when these break-ins occur.
Windows are a major vulnerable area of home, but it is also an easy home security fix to sure your windows. Barring windows is effective against burglary, but some people don't like the look of bars on their home, and they are an expense. A cheap and easy solution is to fit a study piece wood into the lower track of a window which will make it impossible to budge from the outside. One of the easiest entry points for the burglar is, surprisingly enough, the doors of the home. At the same time, this vulnerable entry is also one of the easiest to defend and protect.
Quality locks are always a basic measure to secure your home. If your home is fairly new, it probably already has locks that are in good shape in place. However, it never hurts to carefully review their condition and have an expert look at them if you are in doubt about how well-made they are. Obviously, a dead-bolt lock, properly installed is the next layer of security. A seated door stop is another cheap and easy addition makes it harder to force a door open. Keep in mind that all exterior doors should open inward to optimize security.
The monitoring service plays an important role in identifying true emergencies and alerting authorities and any responsible service will try to balance looking out for the best interests of their customer with making sure that emergency service resources are not wasted on false alarms, which can put others in the community at risk when services are tied up because of with responses to non-emergencies. Home security research is going to allow you to have the best system in place to protect your family and secure your home-- it not only includes getting the best and latest high-tech bells and whistles that you can install, but also must include a home security systems monitoring service that is reliable and that you can trust.

Great home security advice, nice to see a new perspective on a commonly covered subject
I found this hub helpful. I was just checking out security options because we live in what seems to be a fairly safe neighborhood, but you never know??? The low to no-cost options are what we're using currently, but we might opt in for a monitoring serive in the future. Thank you for your useful and informative advice.
I live in a calm neighborhood of a small town with little crime. However, I recently read two articles in different magazines about families who were awakened in the middle of the night by a burgler in their homes. Both families lived in neighborhoods like my own. We can often get a false sense of security. The reality is that every home is vulnerable. Every family should take the necessary steps to secure their home. Your advice is very helpful. Thanks.
Thank you for your well detailed hub with needed information. I happen to live in a neighbourhood with a high crime rate.
You say "...fit a study piece wood into the lower track of a window." This might be a good idea. I don't really like metal bars and would like to preserve a 'cottage like' look to our house. But, can you explain a bit more how this would work? Thanks. Good hub - well that goes without saying I think!
Is this a track to a sliding window perhaps? Originally, I was thinking of the vertical track to a Victorian sash window frame. I'm still unsure. Thanks.
Security is a big issue in my neck of the woods. Thanks, you have given me a couple of ideas I need to implement.
I'm always worried about fire more than crime - A good system will come with smoke and heat detectors connected to the central.
I could have used this info a year ago. My front door was kicked in in the middle of the afternoon and we were robbed. We felt so violated and they still have never cought the burglars.
It is best to know your home's security system. It will give you peace of mind knowing your home will be safe even if you're not around.
Great Hub! I've had a lot of problems with my security system and now I know where to go for the info I need. Thanks!
security must be the first priority at home. having a home security system, it will make your family in good hands! thanks for the tips.
Thanks for sharing that hub. I think its about time we upgraded our fake looking security cameras about the place to something real, and now with your insight, i have somewhere to look for such a real product.
Some great advise on a subject I hadn't considered before, but with home crime rising, an area that needs consideration.
We put bars on our windows in Africa. They have proven to be very effective, as they are definately a deterrent against would-be burglars.
Thanks for the tips - we don't have very good security at our place - should implement some of your suggestions
Even in relatively safe Singapore, there are crimes, so it is worth considering to have a good monitoring company to better our home security...
There's not much crime were I live, but It's always worth a look see. Cheers for the info.
My grandmother used to say the locks only keep the honest people out. Don't know if thats true or not.
Julie then your Granny obviously never lived in South Africa - without a security company we would'nt have beds to sleep in...
Nice hub. Valuable information about home security.Keep up the good work. Thanks
Thanks for the good information on home security. We will be moving into another home right away and will be sharing time between two houses, so 2 monitored security systems are coming up. The information here will be helpful, thanks.
Thanks for sharing this info . It gives you something to think about
Hi, I can see more valuable info up there on home security. Great Work. Thanks!
I never thought home security was that important in the area where we live - until we were burgled. We now have security high on our list - well worth the investment in my opinion.
Good useful tips. Some of these are easy to fix like putting the bar in your windows.
Home security is a minimal monthly fee for the peace of mind and safety of your familyi. If you can afford it I would recommend it to everyone.
With crime increasing home security is becoming evre more important. Great hub!
Great info on what to lok for in a home security system !
My grandpa always talks about how "in the old days" you could actually leave your door unlocked in our neighborhood. Today that is outrigtht stupidity of course!
Great page ! We have alwayse wanted to get a security sysstem for our house, but we don't realy want another payment. Any suggestions?
good stuff, mate :)
Home security has top priority. Thx for great info
Living in a small town has given us a false sence of security. I think maybe we should reevaluate our priorities agian.
Good article. I like it!
I've never worried too much about security, but having a monitored alarm system could provide a comfort as our kids get old enough to be left home alone. Knowing that they have one-touch access to fire & police would be pretty reassuring.
Security is so important today in almost every area. I have a security system already but always wonder if it actually provides enough security or simply gives a false sense of security...
Thanks for a great Hubpage. Just moving to town from a farm I can use the info. Out inn the country we never locked our doors. As a matter of fact when we sold the farm, at closing, they asked for the keys to the house. My wife and I looked at each other and realised that the key was stuck in the door where it had been for the last fifteen years. Moving to town I need this info.
Good hub on home security. Its hard to find good information, as you cannot really rely on advertising by the companies themselves for the most part.
Indeed Home Security is sometimes an issue that is neglected unless something serious occurs. I mean it should not be that way... safety should always come first. Thanks for the hub, and I hope that many would be opened by this hub of yours.
Excellent information on a subject that we tend to forget about all too often.
Thanks for the good info.
Great info. I need to be reminded of the need for more security in my home. I get lulled into the idea that nothing is ever going to happen to me and my family but it's good to make sure it doesn't. Thanks again.
I do over look security, far to often do I forget to even lock my car doors let alone set my security alarm before i leave the house, I need to stop making excuses and just set it before i leave
Thanks for the good info. Home Security is important.
The world is going crazy. We never used to lock our doors at all. It's sad that things have come to this but thanks for the great article it really makes me think.
One can't take chances. Better be prepared than regret later. Home security is a MUST nowadays.
This is a very valuable site in terms of information for home security. Homes are precious things and their security should be a major priority for most people. It is good to see a slightly new perspective on the matter though. Great hub!
Thanks for the tips you have given. Now we could have a safer home, even without the fancy security systems.
It's too bad we need to be so concerned with security, but this is the age we live in, and unfortunately, having more stuff just compounds the problem. Hmmm...
Great common-sense advice. Yes it is sad that we have to worry. Can get spooky at night too, when you think about it.
This is one area that many of us tend to overlook. All we have to is read the paper everyday to see the value of this kind of service. Thanks for the insight.
Thanks Hub for this wonderful information and tips.
I really needed them very badly. Now i can make my home a safe place to live in.
Nice tip about putting the wood to stop windows being lifted. Easy simple and practical advice and it's about as cheap as you can get.
I couldn't agree more. I was the victim myself of a burglary some years ago and I can tell you that that akward experience does not go away easily. Anything you can do to make your home safe for yourself and your family is a good thing. And you give a lot of good tips here!
Great Hub! It is very important to protect the home and family.
Great home security tips and advice...Thanks so Much!
After I got broken into, I feel the home security system is very inportant for a family, especially if you live in a big city. Thanks for sharing the info.
All it takes is getting broken into one time to know how important a home security system is. Thanks for sharing this information and providing a valuable resource.
Thanks for the great page. I have been thinking about getting a security system and your page really helps get me the information i am looking for.
Very good points and yes I am one of the people who dont like bars on the windows but I sure will look at your other ideas. Thanks for the hub.
Thanks for the useful and interesting information. I really need to do a full security update
One of the main reasons that doors are often used as a port of entry into your home by burglars is because almost all locks can be "bumped". If you're not familiar with "bumping", Google the term and you'll be surprised to learn just how easy it is to pick a deadbolt lock with a universal key that burglars have easy access to.
Great hub...thanks for posting the info.
Great article. You are so right about having good sturdy locks on your doors. Thanks for the advice, if more people took the advice in your article, then the crooks might think it's easier to simply get an honest job.
Home security has to be a number one consideration for home owners, a sad fact, but thats how it is. Reading this article will help anyone to make the right choices Thanks
Got me thinking about the times I've been burgled (twice). Didn't have security then and could do better now. I've got to do something about it.
awesome information... I wonder if I should be a security system? We just use basic locks and keys...
My dad insisted I had all the locks changed when I moved into my student digs. You can never be too careful.
