Home Tanning Beds - Are they Safe or dangerous?

Home Tanning Beds – Who is Right?

There are a lot of reports and research on the safety of tanning beds, some say it’s bad – even deadly, and others say getting sun is good for you. The sun helps produce vitamin ‘D’ in the body, which is vital to your health.

I read a report from Australia and they gave a 12 minute warning for beach lovers. They essentially were saying there's no such thing as a safe tan, and their experts were warning that as little as 12 minutes in the sun can be harmful. Yet recently there have been a lot of reports that say 15 minutes of sun several times a week help to boost vitamin D in the body. Vitamin D is an important vitamin that a lot of people don't get enough of, especially if they don't drink milk or use dairy products.

Then a report coming out of New York claims that recreational sun exposure could help prevent the type of blood cancer involving the lymph nodes called non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) according to data from 10 different studies. The results suggest that sun exposure does protect against (NHL) and it is in intermittent pattern of sun exposure that is the most protective. Here again, in this study they were touting the anti-cancer effects by boosting vitamin D production in the skin, according to research.

A according to their studies recreational sun exposure between the ages of 18 and 40 as well as in the teen years before a person was diagnosed with Ian H. L., did reduce the risk of the disease. They also do find recreational sun exposure is the number of hours spent in the sun one nonworking days. There is one fact we get from this data, and that is that exposure to the sun causes the skin to produce vitamin D, which might help explain how sun light could be protective against NHL the research suggests.
