3 Cute Christmas Ornaments You Can Make with Items Around Your House

Ornaments are very expensive to buy either your Christmas ornaments or other ornaments for the Holidays. For a more economical and fun option, here are three cute and easy Homemade Christmas Ornaments Ideas you can make with items you can find in your house.

1. Cookie Ornaments:

Use whatever cookie cutter designs you have on hand and bake cookies to hang on the tree. If you do not have cookie cutter designs, no problem. Make your own designs. For example make pretzel cookies, which can easily be hung on a branch and decorated with ribbons. Here is how to do it. Roll out a small piece of your favorite dough to about 3 inches. Take the two ends and overlap them at the top to form an upside down letter “Q” – or make any loop shape. After the pretzel is baked, you can tie a ribbon through the hole in the shape of a bow, and hang it on the tree.

2. Paper Tree Ornaments:

Take white construction paper and cut out Christmas trees. Your child can personalize each one with his name, stickers, glitter, a drawing, or color each tip of the tree to resemble ornaments. Use these trees to make a border in your child’s room or string them together to wrap around your Christmas tree.

3. Christmas Stocking Ornaments:

Make your own Christmas stocking ornaments using whatever material you have on hand. Use several fabrics and colors to really make them bright and colorful. Glue on bows, beads or large ribbons. You can also personalize them with your child's name. When the stockings are done, cut a piece of fabric into a loop and sew it onto the top of the stocking. Hang them on the tree proudly.

Making homemade ornaments is not only fun for the entire family, but lets your child expand his creativity and imagination. It is much more meaningful to make something than to just go out and buy it. It is a wonderful and satisfying way to spend time with your children. These home-made ornaments make wonderful gifts as well.

You can make beautiful ornaments with what you have available in the house. So before your go shopping why not have a look around the house for ideas. Another very good options is to do Christmas crafts with the kids.

How to Make a Personalized Christmas Ornament

Here are some tips for making personalized Homemade Christmas Ornaments Crafts.

Why not trim your tree with family photographs. For example take the pocket sized 2-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches. Use a hole punch to punch a hole at the top, and put a red, white, or gold ribbon through the photo to hang on the tree. You can adorn your tree with an entire collection of photographs of your family from past to present.

If you have small picture frames made of light wood, paint them different colors. Choose your favorite photographs of the kids, and hang the frames on the tree by placing a ribbon either through the hook on the back or under the frame stands. For thicker frames, cover the outer edges with foil paper or fabric and decorate them with sparkles so they will stand out and enhance the look of the tree.

For the computer savvy, use a digital camera to take photographs of your entire family.

Use software to generate the picture into your computer and save the pictures to paint shop software. There are many things you can do to decorate the pictures. Add Christmas borders such as trees, bells, Santas, reindeer or holly and then add their names using different colors and fonts.

After the photograph has been decorated you can reduce the photograph, using the software, to 2-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches, and insert the photo into the frame and hang the frame on the tree. For larger photographs, take a piece of cardboard, cut the cardboard to the size of the picture, and paste the picture to the cardboard, punch a hole at the top, and hang the photograph proudly on the tree.

Your children can also participate in the decorating process by drawing pictures of themselves or family members using construction paper. An entire tree can be filled with their drawings, using different colored construction paper. They can hang their pictures using traditional hooks, ribbons, or yarn. Imagine their faces when the entire tree is filled with drawings. Remember to take a photo of them in front of the tree for your family scrapbook.

Homemade Christmas Ornaments Ideas - Ways to Make a Christmas Wreath

Traditional pine Christmas wreaths are quite expensive to buy, and every year the price seems to go up and up. To avoid this expense, here are some simple ways to make a Christmas wreath at home.

For this project you will need a wire; holly; pipe cleaners; candy canes; acorns; can of snow; and Christmas tree branches. Take the wire and form it into a circle. Twist the two ends of the wire around each other to secure the circle. Using Christmas tree branches, tie them around the wire using green pipe cleaners. Add candy canes, holly and acorns to the branches with wire or hot glue gun. Spray the Christmas tree branches with artificial snow. You have just created a beautiful Christmas wreath to hang on your front door.

Another wonderful idea is to make a picture wreath. Purchase a starter wreath form at a craft store (just a simple, undecorated one). Take your favorite family photographs, put a little hole on the top of each picture, and insert different colored ribbon through each hole in the picture. Tie each ribbon to the wreath. Hang the wreath on your front door. Your friends and family will marvel at the creativity used to make this particular Christmas wreath.

One other idea is to make a popcorn wreath with a Christmas picture of your family in the center. Simply take thick thread and string popcorn together. Determining how large you want the wreath to be will enable you to decide how long the popcorn chain will be.

Take a piece of wire, form it into a circle, and secure it at both ends. Double up the popcorn chain. Wrap the popcorn around the wire. Place your Christmas family photo in the center of the wreath.

You can also make animal wreaths using pictures of your pets; Christmas card wreaths; ornament wreaths; candy wreaths, jingle bell wreaths; Christmas ball wreaths; or any kind of themed wreath you desire.

The point is, there are many ways to make a Christmas wreath, and it costs nothing except an imaginative mind and a joyful heart.
