Easy to make, wonderful flavor!

Instead of buying your own crackers at your local grocer, you should try making your own at home. They're super easy and cheap to make, very healthy (no trans fats or preservatives!) and you can concoct a bunch of yummy variations. Pack them in your kids lunch or bring them to work for a healthy and very satisfying snack.

Makes: Approximately 24 crackers

Basic Whole Wheat Cracker Recipe

1 1/2 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
2 tablespoons oil (your choice, I use extra virgin olive oil)
4 tablespoons of water

Mix together the flour and salt. Add the oil and knead mixture together by hand. Add enough water to make dough. Knead for about 5 minutes.

Spread onto oiled cooking sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes a 325 degrees. Let cool for one hour. Break into pieces.

Enjoy! Put them in your child's lunch or eat them as a snack with a healthy piece of fruit; you'll be good to go!

Variations

Parmesan Garlic Whole Wheat Crackers

Omit salt. Add 1/4 cup parmesan cheese and garlic to taste to the basic recipe for a gourmet cracker.

Savory Herb Crackers
Add onion flakes, rosemary, dill and a little bit of garlic for a taste explosion!

Sounds silly but until I read this hub I'd completely forgotten that people can make their own crackers. Thanks for the recipe!

It's your choice. :) I prefer olive oil but you could also use vegetable oil or even a combination of the two. I know some folks don't like the taste of olive oil.
