Are Homemade Solar Panels Worth It?

Energy from the sun can be gathered using homemade solar panels. Solar energy is the king of renewable energies. The sun not only provides energy directly, it also powers earth's natural cycles (that also provide renewable energy) like rain and wind.

Even though the sun is so important, we often take it for granted. For years, previous generation have used a wide array of techniques and materials to gather and focus the sun's rays. These have evolved from primitive techniques, such as glass and metal reflectors, to technologies that can power our cars and refridgerators.

Solar panels (homemade ones included) help to keep the environment clean for us and future generations. These solar panels are comprised of individual solar cells, also called photovoltaic cells. These photovoltaic cells provide the magic that convert the sun's energy into usable electric power. A solar panel consists of these solar cells and some type of electrical semiconductor to conduct the electricity.

There are many books on the market that tell you where to get the materials and how to build your own solar panels. Do your research and read reviews of DIY solar panel kits before you buy. Many programs will tell you where you can find the materials for less than $200.
