You don't have to spend tons of money on fancy gifts for the holidays! The best gifts are ones that people put real time, effort, and thought into- these are the things that people will appreciate and make use of.

Baked goods are always welcomed, as are whole meals. For busy people who don't often get a chance to make a proper meal for themselves, cooking up a meal that they can easily freeze or stick right in the oven- such as soup or lasagna- are perfect. Bake holiday cookies, cakes, and pies; you can make large batches and then put them in cute tins with a nice ribbon wrapped around them for effect.

If you are the artistic type, drawing, sketching, or painting a picture to hang on the wall is for you! Get your artwork framed and it will look especially professional. If you write poetry, you can do this same thing: write a personalized poem and frame it. Alternatively, you can take this opportunity to share a poetry or verse that you love by framing one that has already been written (be sure to give the author their credit!). Have any nice photos of you and the receiver of your gift? Again, putting it in a classy frame makes for a great present. 

Homemade sugar srubs are quick and easy. You can also put together the ingredients for hot cocoa in a jar and label it. If you knit, then scarves and mittens are a must; for the sewers, it is easy to whip up a little cushion. Sew different swatches of material together or create your own design; you can also add some embroidery if you're particularly clever with the needle.

Other items that you can make include jewelry (check out your local bead store), bookmarks (choose leather or a soft cloth), or gather some of your favourite recipes together and compile them together to make a mini recipe book. Include photos and choose a good quality notebook or binder with the recipes printed up on the computer.

If you like to cook and grow your own herbs or produce, dried herbs, seeds, and fresh produce are sure to be a hit. People love jam, so if you make your own it would be a very good gift. The same goes for if you are into canning!

Another nice gift is a mixed tape or cd. You can choose any songs at all, so get creative!
