Homeopathy An Alternative Treatment
67
Homeopathy is a treatment of disease by tiny doses of drugs or substances that cause symptoms of the disease. Samuel Hahnemann, a German doctor that developed this method of treatment suggests that this process activate the medicinal power held within a drug. In his experiment, he has concluded that symptoms are signs of the body fighting a disease an example is a high body temperature or fever, and that drugs that cause a disease's symptoms can help the body fight the disease. The doctor also believed that the smaller the dose of the drug, the more powerful its therapeutic effect.
Homeopathy became a popular alternative to traditional medicine during the mid-1800's, this involves such practices as giving large doses of drugs and bloodletting. During the early 20th century, the use of homeopathy became less popular because of the scientific advancement of conventional medicine that led to the use of improved drugs and other treatments.
By the mid-1800's homeopathy had become a popular alternative to conventional medicine, which involved such practices as administering huge doses of drugs and bloodletting. In the early 20th century, the practice of homeopathy declined as the scientific advance of conventional medicine led to the use of improved drugs and therapies. In the 1970's, the people became interested again in the use homeopathy, despite the fact that there is little scientific evidence that homeopathy is really effective in treating diseases. In the USA, homeopathic drugs for minor ailments, such as the common cold, are sold as over the counter medications.

I think few people know that Homeopathy was a major medical modality at the turn of the 20th century in the United States. The Boston College of Medicine, which is where my brother went to Med school, was originally a homeopathic institution. Homeopathy treated many famous people during this time including Charles Darwin, Abraham Lincoln, Herbert Hoover, John D. Rockefeller, etc. My favorites are Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Mother Teresa, the British royal family and more current users are Cindy Crawford, Tony Blair, Tina Turner and Jackson Pollock.
