When School is Out What Happens to the Students?

When they begin to shut down High Schools and Colleges there are alternatives to keeping up with course work, testing and homework. Because we live in the "Age of the Internet" we have the option of communicating via computers, cellphones, and all the applications and technology that goes along with the hardware.

Colleges have been using Distance Education for a long time. Teachers upload course work and lists of readings. Students take exams on the internet and submit reports and term papers.

Due to the recent outbreak of influenza so many high school students have to stay home that administrators are beginning to utilize the same advantages as college administrations. The students are well prepared because they have been brought up with this technology and it is second nature to them.

Making The Best of A Bad Situation

Turning A Difficult Situation into A Positive

  • Education Week reports: Nearly 300 schools around the country had closed as of April 30 as a result of the flu, according to the Associated Press. States with closings include California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, New York, South Carolina, and Texas. In addition, all high school sports in Texas and Alabama were suspended, according to Associated Press reports.

  • “Schools at all levels should be using this time to prepare for a possible swine flu pandemic, with online instruction being an important option to consider,” Thomas E. Chandler, the manager of technology and educational applications for the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University, said in an e-mail. “And if swine flu does not materialize as a major pandemic, having an online distance-learning plan in place will always be useful, in the event of the next [crisis].

I believe recent events will push schools into a new format. More and more classes will be totally distance education, even in high school. Perhaps this will enable those with disabilities, handicaps, and discipline problems to graduate from high school because they won't be tied down to a regular school day schedule.

If you've been reading my Hubs you know that my passion is homeopathy. I think everyone should have a home remedy kit in case of emergencies and that includes getting the flu!

  • If you do have a home remedy kit then it is very important that you know how to use it properly. The very best thing you can do is take a distance education learning course on the basic remedies. You need to know how, when and where to use the remedies in the kit.
  • You need to learn basic principles of homeopathy and when it is appropriate to call a doctor or go to the emergency room. There are simple steps you can take for bumps and bruises. But if you are ever unsure then it is best to speak to a professional.
  • I believe taking a beginner course will make you a much better patient, as well. You will see how much skill it takes to discern which remedy is best to use in each situation.

First, you will need a remedy kit so you are ready when you need to move into action mode.

There are some great self-taught on-line courses. I recommend one by Mary Aspinwall. And guess what? It's Completely Free!

Course Contents:

  • Module 1 - The two golden rules. The Law of Similars and The Law of the Minimum Dose. Essential information to give you a really solid foundation to work from.

  • Module 2 - First Aid (Arnica, Calendula, Cantharis, Hypericum, Ledum, Ruta, Rhus tox, Silica and more). Danger signs. When to seek professional help.

  • Module 3 - How to take an acute case. Useful remedy chart for you to print out and work with.

  • At the end of each module there is a chance to review what you have learnt with a short quiz and the answers to each quiz are given in the subsequent module.

  • As this is a new course we very much welcome your comments and feedback. Please check our future newsletters for details of further modules and our upcoming on-line courses which will be on childbirth and travelling to exotic climes.

Hi Debbie

Homeopathy is a delightful type of medicine. i remember trying to read Hahnemann. I studied in medical school previous to going into dentistry. Being already trained up in "western" medicine, i found it difficult to switch. "Different strokes for different folks" I guess. Seems like Ayurvedic medicine is more my cup of tea.Hippocrates sid, you remember, Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food." nice blog

BTW ny grandson goes to http://flvs.net we live florida, so it is free for him. # 1 in the country.

Hi Vrajavala ~ That looks like a fantastic way to take courses and the fact that this service is free is totally amazing! Thanks for letting me know about it.

Food can be your medicine is an excellent aphorism. We should be able to nurture our bodies and spirits with what we put into our mouths.

I wish more people knew how they can treat themselves for the Swine Flu. Thank you for making this information available. Homeopathy has a fantastic success record for epidemics and the common flu.

Dear Melissa ~ We're all trying to educate the public that they have the power to heal using common sense measures like sunshine [vitamin D], quality rest, exercise in the fresh air, good nutrition and a joyful attitude. Of course, when professional help is needed, homeopathy can be an excellent beginning by contacting a professional like yourself at http://www.Innhealth.us

hugs, Debby
