New Laptops
Well, this is the first update on our adventure in homeschooling. i recieved a call late this morning telling me that a teacher from PACE was arriving by plane into the Fairbanks area and she would meet me at two in the afternoon to deliver the boys computers.
We met her in the lobby of the building in which we live and she showed the boys how to use the backpacks designed for carrying their computers i.e. how to stash it all away when not in use. We made an appointment for thier first testing and a class on power point presentations.
They brought thier computers (Macbooks) in, plugged them in and started exploring them off line. The first thing they looked for was Garage band a program that they used when they were in public school. Buck started writing music immediately while Turtle played with the voice synthesizer. Buck put together a couple of surprisingly good pieces that I enjoyed. Later after they go to bed I will be exploring thier computers myself, as I've never used an Apple it will be a somewhat new experience for me.
Personally I'm looking forward to seeing thier new knowledge in power point put to good use in writing school reports, as well as hearing thier own original musical compositions.
In the mean time I went over thier schoolbooks with thier teacher and we sent some back and she ordered new ones that are more in line with where they're at scholastically.
Well, I let the boys just play with thier computers for a few days, just to explore them, and remember what they've already learned. They've been having a blast teaching each other the things that the other one doesn't know on how to use thier laptops.
Buck is writing a piece of music that sounds quite good so far, it's a mix between country and classical, if you can imagine that sound. He's blending the sound of a fiddle into the sound of a violin and then back again. He's using a program called Garage Band.
Turtle is busy writing, and acting out, an Old Time Radio Mystery, what a wild imagination he has! There is everything from an alien invasion to a murder that has to be solved. Maybe I have a young sci-fi/mystery writer on my hands.

As I stated before I've decided to try home-school with my two sons who have Asperger's Syndrome this year. I came to this decision mainly because I've have had so many problems with the various public school...
