Homeschooling is on the Rise
61More parents teach their own children than ever before
Homeschooling on the Rise in the United States
According to recent studies, a whopping 1.5 million children are now being taught at home—an increase of 75% in the last decade.
The main reasons parents are opting to teach their own children are:
Concerns regarding the school environment (safety issues, negative peer pressure, the presence of gangs and drugs etc.)
The desire to teach moral and religious values and
A dissatisfaction with the quality of academic instruction at mainstream schools
On the average, homeschooled children outperform traditionally schooled kids on standardized achievement tests by 15-30 percentage points.
The demographics, income and education level of the parents is generally irrelevant to the quality of academic instruction that children receive at home. Kids from poorer homes with parents who are not college educated, still outperform children in traditional schools!
The negative stereotype/myth that homeschooled children are socially inept has been proven false. Studies show they are as socially savvy as their peers.
