Jesus got honorable mention today

As we sat at a table in a little café

It was the smile from the waitress that prompted the spark

My husband asked, “Do you have Jesus in your heart?”

As she served she replied, “Yes, no doubt, “

“if you need more coffee just give me a shout.”

As she left we spoke of kids and of bills,

Neither of us mentioned as we ate our meal,

that moment, that spark, where a conversation should start

when Jesus almost shined in all of our hearts.

Jesus got honorable mention today,

as I scolded my kids while they were at play,

“What would Jesus think of your behavior just now?”

As they pondered the answer, their faces turned sour,

“He doesn’t approve” was the answer they gave,

“well neither do I”, and a smack on the bum,

I was too busy to explain to them any more,

“Now please go outside and shut the door!”

Then back to the phone, speaking with a friend,

Talking of gardening, sewing and latest trends,

Not once did I give another thought to that spark,

When Jesus could have shined in my children’s hearts

Jesus got honorable mention today,

As I lay my head down at the end of the day,

Thoughts filled my head of things I must do

“Oh Lord Jesus, please help me I really need you”

Then sleep and dreaming of another day

Not another thought as to what I should say

To the King of Kings and Lord of Lords,

I wonder if He thought He was Honored today?
