Honeymoons That Never End
56Starting Off Wrong: Honeymoon Postponement
Over the years a rather disturbing trend has developed with newlyweds: The postponement, which often leads to the disappearance, of the honeymoon.
While there are justifications and morally relative responses to the reasons behind this trend, the fact remains that honeymoon postponement not only does not need to happen; it's actually a rip-off to the new marriage.
When else will a new couple have a unique bonding experience that helps solidify the glue in the marriage vows? It's this bond that helps hold people together during the rough patches. And all marriages, no matter how blissful, have rough patches.
Honeymoons are by far not the only element of the glue that hold marriages together, but they are decidedly in the mix. And since they are so easy to add in, it's amazing why they get left out. Excuse me, postponed. Yeah, right.
So what are some of the "reasons" behind the postponements?
- Job Obligations -- This is the "no time" reason. Well, if not now, when? This question could support an article all on its own. After all, what does this say about your priorities? So we'll leave that issue between you and your pre-marital counselors and move forward with a quick reminder that getting away from work is not only good for you and your marriage, it's good for your job. You NEED to get away from time to time. Honeymoons definitely qualify as one of those times.
- Can't Afford It Right Now -- But you can afford to get married? Well, guess what? Two can NOT live as cheaply as one. If you've been told that, it's a lie. Perhaps not an intentional misguidance, but a lie nonetheless. What you CAN do is work together to think outside the box and find a way to honeymoon that you CAN afford.
Is $149 for a full week at a luxury resort within budget?
We thought so. Read on to find out how this is a very real option.
Option 1: Gift From Mom and Dad
When possible, moms and dads are a great resource for honeymoon funds, especially for young couples just starting out. But even then, honeymoons can be financially burdensome for those who live on a fairly tight budget.
Enter the online vacation membership option. Not timeshares. Not vacation clubs. Not even offline vacation memberships. But the online vacation membership option. Currently there are two major players to choose from: Global Resorts Network (GRN) and Members Only Resorts (MOR) Vacations.
Here's how this option works:
- Mom and/or Dad purchase a premium membership (GRN = Platinum, priced at $2,995; MOR = Diamond, cash discount priced at $1,998).
- These are lifetime memberships that each offer lifetime discount value.
- Each program offers a guest pass program with their premium memberships.
- The honeymoon gift can either be the entire membership or the guest pass. And the guest pass can either be a gift itself, or the couple may opt to reimburse Mom and/or Dad.
Benefits to Mom and Dad:
- If Mom and Dad don't already have a vacation membership themselves, they can certainly keep the membership and be guilt-free when gifting the young couple a honeymoon.
- By watching for specials, Mom and Dad can take their own second, third, and a lifetime of future honeymoons themselves that way.
Benefits to the new couple:
- As far as budget is concerned, there's now no excuse for not taking this important first step in the marital bonding process.
- The couple gets a great honeymoon at a great resort for about the same price (or less!) it would cost to stay in a cheesy motel room where you don't even want to know what that stuff on the ceiling actually is.
Option 2: Gift To Yourselves
Let's face it. Not everyone who gets married is either a young couple just starting out or someone with parents who can gift them a honeymoon. Parents may no longer even be living for older couples. And some younger couples want the whole thing for themselves.
That's up to you. Couples can certainly purchase a vacation membership program and enjoy the lifetime of benefits it offers them from the get-go. Both parental and couple benefits are combined with this option.
Thinking Outside The Box
This is the tricky part. But it can be part of the adventure when realizing what you can get for so very little money spent.
1. Instead of planning a dream honeymoon to some place you or your family really cannot afford, plan ahead to travel, but leave the destination open. That way you are ready to go when the price is right. (This assumes a consideration for best budget value; of course you can plan ahead for a pricier option if the budget is a little more open.)
2. With GRN, guest pass options are limited to those offered through their concierge service. With MOR Vacations, guest pass options are unlimited and can be used for any vacation option in their 5,400+ inventory.
3. With GRN, best value options (from $249) are more frequently found in Malaysia and other former British empire regions. That's because GRN is UK-based.
4. With U.S.-based MOR Vacations, best value options (from $149) are more frequently found within the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to reduce travel expenses.
5. Look for the Hot Week Specials about a week before you want to leave. Sound last minute? It is. That's why it's so important to plan ahead for the rest. It's also the reason you can get luxury stays at extremely low rates.
6. Either drive your own car or find an extreme flight deal from carriers such as Southwest Airlines to save on travel expenses. Both GRN and MOR Vacations also have discount flight offers as part of their membership packages.
There are other ways you can save on travel expenses while upgrading your vacation or honeymoon experience. 149 of them to be exact. Visit http://HotWeeks-CoolPrices.com to get your free report.
