Honolulu Cheap Hotels
58If you are looking for Honolulu cheap hotels or cheap hotels near Honolulu, just because airfare might be expensive, doesn't mean that lodging has to be. One of the best ways to get discounts hotels in Hawaii is by using either Name Your Own Price from Priceline or Hotwire.com. Although both will get you good deals, Priceline will get you better deals. This is the general feel I get after browsing betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com, which let users post what they received from Priceline and Hotwire. When hotels have unsold rooms, they use Priceline and/or Hotwire to fill them. As such, both sites connect hotels looking to sell off these rooms at discounted rates with customers looking for a bargain. What's the catch? With both sites, you do not know which hotel or resort you'll be staying in. What's the difference between Priceline's Name Your Own Price and Hotwire? With Hotwire, prices are pre-determined. Priceline, on the other hand, is more flexible in that it lets you bid for hotels (naming your own price in the process).
In order to access Name Your Own Price, simply go to Priceline.com. There you'll find the Name Your Own Price feature in the middle of page. Once you type in your search criteria, you'll notice that Priceline gives you 9 zones from which to choose from.
Where should you start your bid?

How should you bid?
The key to priceline rebidding is using dummy zones. Before you do anything, it is a good idea to find out the maximum available star level available within each zone. I'll do the work for you:
Diamond Head Area: 4-Star Deluxe
Executive Center: 3-Star Upscale
Honolulu Airport (HNL): 2-Star Moderate
Ihilani: Resorts
Oahu North Shore: Resorts
Waianae: 2-Star Moderate
Waikiki Beach Area: Resorts
Waikiki City Central: 3½-Star Upscale-Plus
Waikiki Marina Are: Resorts
You can find out the maximum available star level by clicking and unclicking on each zone, one at a time. Keep in mind the Resorts, although they are the last "star level" listed are rated above any other star level, including 4-Star Deluxe. Why do you want to know the maximum available star level within each zone? Because knowing so will allow you to get many rebids.
Let's say that you want to get a resort in the Waikiki Beach Area zone ("Resorts" is your star level and Waikiki Beach Area is your chosen zone). Your first bid fails. Priceline allows you to rebid immediatley if you change something about your criteria. Otherwise, if you don't change anything, you can rebid again after 24 hours. What can you change about your bid? Your chosen star level, your dates, and zones. Does this mean that you have to really change your criteria in order to bid again? No. To rebid again using the same exact criteria, just add a zone whose maximum star level is lower than the "Resorts" star level. For example, you can add the "Executive Center" zone for your next bid for a total of two zones. Because your chosen star level is "Resorts", you know you won't end up staying in the "Executive Center" zone because its maximum star level is lower than your chosen "Resorts" star level. Priceline thinks that you have changed your bid criteria. But what you have really done is used the "Executive Center" zone as a dummy or fake zone to bid immediately again for a second time!
More complex rebidding
Aside from the aforementioned example above, there are many many more rebids available. Because there are multiple zones whose star level is lower than your chosen star level, you have many rebids available. By far the best information online that I've see on rebidding comes from a post on biddingfortravel.com. Yes, you can get hotel deals from the standard booking sites. Yes, you won't know exactly, which hotels you'll be staying in. But if you use Priceline, you get the best deals possible for cheap hotels in Honolulu HI.
