Getting Gear Ready For Breaking Weather

We whacked out at our house and decided to develop a long wall in our den, as a place to hang our fishing poles. They have been in the attic of our garage most winters. This year the decision was made to clear out all storage in one particular area and make that, our boating/fishing/camping, storage facility. NOW that has become one of our CRAZY projects. Yes we are cleaning and sorting too. I guess that goes hand in hand with redefining a storage space issue. The plan is to be able to grab and go. Get ready, get set. Not just yet, It is too cold out there!

Gotta Clean House Cause We Aren't Goin' Fishin'

The weather has been hard on us, here at the southern tip of Lake Michigan. There's been snow on the ground for almost the entire month of February. Everyone I know has cabin fever and people are starting to do some crazy things. A lot of my friends have resorted to cleaning out closets, cabinets, drawers and dark corners in their homes. It is a frightful sight. They have items that have been stowed away for years, pulled out from hiding. They have been sorted, categorized and boxed with intentions. Some things go to the trash, some to charity, some go back in the dark place. Why is all of this happening? I know it is because we can't go fishing!

No Fear Of Cold Weather Fishing

There are good reasons not to fish in this kind of weather. The biggest one is probably the danger involved. I personally do not want to fall through the ice, right? We do not want to slip on it either. You can't put a boat in on a slppery ramp, it just is not worth the risk. We will go out when it is cold, crappie fishing is always the best during colder weather. I think the fish taste alot better when they come out of icy water. The thing is that it is smart to weigh the possible fishing results against the weather and, make sure you think it is worth going.

Dreaming The Snow Away

It won't be too much longer and I will be out there trying to catch something from some lake. This is the time of year when we take off and find warmer weather. Jump in the van and we can be on a lake that is not covered in ice, it might take a day of driving, but you know, you gotta do what you gotta do. We usually head straight south. I get excited as we drive and pass small ponds along the highway. When they start becoming more liquid than solid I get anxious. We head for Kentucky and Tennessee, or somewhere in that general direction. Have to go in the late part of winter because fishing Lake Michigan come spring cannot be missed. Coho salmon is one of my favorites. Right now I will just have to settle for the daydreams, and getting that fishing pole, wall finished.
