Mysterious HRG

Not Really Talking About Eyewear

"Horn Rimmed Glasses" is not an eBay or Amazon item for sale on this hub.

Horn Rimmed Glasses is an interesting character on Tim Kring and NBC TVs series, "HEROES."

Horn Rimmed Glasses is, for Heroes, what "The Smoking Man" was for the "X-files."

Horn Rimmed Glasses was shown as a character at the start of Season One when the Heroes show was just taking off. He was a mysterious fellow and viewers never got to fully see his face - only the side-view of a face, showing clearly - "A man wearing Horn Rimmed Glasses."

Early in season one, the character was appropriately names "HRG" for a time, and even though viewers have since found out the most likely identity of "HRG" Mr. Horn Rimmed Glasses, there exists a slight posibility that HRG is not exactly who we think.

It will be interesting to continue following the Heroes series into Season Two, just to see if writers and producers make more of this character down the road.

The identity of HRG/Horn Rimmed Glasses has been shown to be that of Mr. Noah Bennet, and into later episodes of season one, Noah Bennet was, in fact, shown to be the man wearing Horn Rimmed Glasses. An episode even features daughter, Claire Bennet, in a 'clip from the past' talking with 'dad' while Mr. Bennet is selecting eyewear that his doctor told him to get. Claire is the one who selects the Horn Rimmed Glasses, saying these are the best suited for 'dad' to wear.

So much has been made of this piece of eyewear that I tend to look for 'the utility' here. What I mean is...the episode clip from the past about the selection of eyewear benefitted the show at the time, during the first season.

American TV is famous for 'stretching things out' when popular television shows start to decline in popularity... American TV is noted for bringing back 'old characters' in order to prolong the life of shows.

Though the Heroes series is in no danger at the moment - of experiencing a notable decline in popularity (fall 2007, Season Two, so far), it is bound to experience troubles in the future.

All Kinds of Possibilities For This Character

I believe that the HRG character, as shown in introductory episodes of season one, could be very effectively utilized later on - with a brand new character. Mr. Bennet could later be shown to be 'a man with Horn Rimmed Glasses,' however, the writers could very easily create "THE MAN - with Horn Rimmed Glasses" well into the future...to bring new life into the show at a later date, if necessary.

The fact that HRG, the acronym and the "Horn Rimmed Glasses" character was quite SEPARATE from Mr. Bennet for several episodes (when viewers didn't KNOW to associate Mr. Bennet with the character at all) makes "HRG" an open character to work with in the future. In a show that has 'shape-shifters' and 'adoption of extraordinary abilities' and 'transferred abilities,' I don't think it's fantastical at all to push the 'utility' of a first season, mysterious character at all.

Forum threads abound with "Heroes Theories" and "HRG" controls a lot of threads and space still. For several episodes, HRG was a main focus.

I hope to see this character separated from Noah someday, because - face it - MYSTERIOUS UNKNOWN MAN WITH HORN RIMMED GLASSES...

That just WORKS for most people!
