Horror Film Reviews: Slither

Horror Comedy Slither
This horror movie is a direct opposite of the film that I reviewed earlier Splinter, as it is a horror comedy and doesn't really take it self seriously at all, which makes for some funny moments and takes the edge off full on serious horror for a change like Shaun Of The Dead, I suppose this is what makes a film of this type quickly become a cult status horror film like Evil Dead or Braindead and with Slither we see a familiar pattern that takes the story further through the laugh out loud moments.
The story of the movie starts when the unlucky Grant gets infected by a parasitic worm on a walk back from the local bar and after a gradual process begins to change into a sweaty looking ugly infected creature with a desire for infecting other people in the town with loads of small slithering worms, there's one really funny moment as he infects this woman with loads of these worms and she becomes real bloated and hugely fat and the sherriff and a few others discover her and she says "I think somethings wrong with me!" well I laughed out loud at that obvious statement!
Then she explodes!!
And all of the worms are released, the story plays out like a who's going to get infected, but then who cares if there is a laugh to be had at the end of it.
One top gory moment was when Grant( now a big slithering ugly worm himself) slices someone in half with his tentacle like arm, not at the waist though, from the head to the nuts, which sort of looks better in my opinion with a little CG trickery, also what is great about this film is that it doesn't rely too much on CGI and rather state of the art prosthetics like way back in John Carpenters The Thing.
Although this film is a couple of years old now, I almost forgot about it, but I went through all of my DVDs and there are quite a few horror films that I'm going to review soon, cult classics don't come any better than Slither, even though when I first ordered it at blockbusters they gave me Sliver by accident(which of course was that soft porn flick with Sharon Stone) but it is a good film, filled with funny moments and horror gore combine to make this one of the best horror comedies of recent years.
The bonus features on the regular DVD include directors commentary which I love to listen to on my second viewing of the film as the director goes through certain scenes and the process and thoughts on how they tackled different angles and effects which is a bonus.
There's a gag reel and a couple of making of featurettes which gives you an additional insight into the movies creative process and extended and deleted scenes with optional commentary by Writer/Director James Gunn.

I still haven't gotten to "Paranormal Activity," though I know I should; it just sounds like it'll either freak me out or disappoint. Here's news today, though, about director Oren Peli's follow-up: "Area 51," a thriller in which a trio of kids sneak into a government facility that may or may not contain alien life forms, was bought by Paramount after weeks of negotiation. The studio, which has ...

I think we were all hoping that this was going to be the next great Christmas movie. Unfortunately, the film is not. In fact, it doesn’t come anywhere close to a “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” type quality film. As a matter of fact it falls way below any expectations that may have been set for a holiday comedy. If you have visited any of my past reviews, you will know that I don’t have ...

Love it! And not just because it stars Nathan Fillion from Firefly, although that doesn't hurt!
