Toilet Paper Roll

Wha?

If you thought the “slasher” movie craze was on its way out and that now it’s safe to go to the theater, be aware that you might be wrong, at least if you find yourself in Japan. Moviemakers may not be producing any more sequels to Halloween and Friday the 13th, but if you have to use a restroom in Japan, you might soon find all your celluloid psychopaths lurking there where you would least expect to find them.

The Japanese publisher Sega with the introduction of the electronic Horror Summer Toilet Roll has created a novelty that defies the oriental aesthetic of form following beautiful function. It is a toilet roll not meant for the faint-hearted, and although it is not R rated, perhaps it should be. As one grabs for the three ply quilted roll, one is suddenly bombarded with loud shouts and explosions. The soon to be released gimmick toilet roll is meant to be a practical joke but it seems certain that many will not think so.

What is Sega thinking? This Horror Summer Toilet Roll is an invasion of privacy to say the very least. Consider too a person with a heart condition reaching for a roll and getting instead a blood curdling scream. That could be dangerous and even if it isn’t, how is that funny?

Just as the powers that sell waited to release the horror movie, Jaws for the beach season some thirty years ago, the Horror Toilet Roll is due to hit the markets in the up and coming warmer months. It is thought that the reason for this is that in the summer the Japanese seek the cooling comfort of their very hi-tech toilets.

Hi-tech toilets are one thing but it should stop there. Don’t come here, Horror Summer Toilet Roll. Please don’t come here. We have enough psychopaths, screams and explosions of our own without your help, thank you.
